Why? They are reportedly interested in JJ.

Kings don't want to pay a ton for LD this year. They are like 8.5 mil under the cap.
Here is your list of UFA LD https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/free-agents/2020/games-played/all/defense/ufa/desc/1/left

You are basically looking at Hutton, Morrow and Gardiner.

Gardiner has back issues. Which is why no one signed him. It's not worth a 6 million + dollar risk, and LAK don't want to spend 6 million.
Morrow, sucks.
Hutton looked awful last year.

LAK need a LD. Who is low cost. and capable of playing at the NHL level.
The pickings are slim and there are multiple teams in the same spot.

They also need a backup goalie. Campbell is probably signing else where for more money after last year.

So yeah, LAK could be a possibility. I doubt they trade for him, but it's not because of the value here. It's because he's been there done that before. He played there for 5 years before.

as a pens fan who lives in LA i get to go to about 8-10 kings games a year ... as to the points made above ... the kings current management was not around when JJ was there .. ur 11m a year dman liked playing with jj. king need a low cost vet say what u will but jj contract is not bad based on some of the contacts being given out.. jj is something the kings can use during the retool ... quick has been subject of tons of trade speculation .. columbus has been in heavy talks with la about quick .. if goalies for columbus fall apart i can see that trade happening .. then la needs someone ready for nhl and that is most definately JARRY.. make tons of sense ...especially for that price a 6th rnd pk and u get back 2 needs... besides king WILL be having a firesale at the TDL carter kovy brown martinez trofolli lewis .. they are just hoping for decent start to the season so those players have higher value ...kings will be doing a major retool over the next 3 yrs ALA the rangers ....

as for the rest of those trades DG everyone of them is BLAH ... dillon for rust pens should get the pick not SJ .. gmJR is not gonna trade gubranson ... honka for ZAR straight up i can see that happening .. dallas is still looking for a young bottom 6 who can slide up and down like ZAR and honka seems to be the odd man out with johns coming back ... hudon i doubt he can be gotten that cheap montreal seems to over value this prospect and acts like he already a multi-season 30+ goal scorer ..

If Gudbranson is gone I'd like to see Stephen Johns (back healthy) coming here first not Dillon with 1y left on his contract. Rust is a valuable asset not a cap dump to add a pick to him in a trade for a rental.

Johns is an interesting idea. Just saw he was skating at development camp last month and looks ready to go...he would prob be a better option than Honka on that right side.

If we’re scratching the Rust for Dillon idea do you think LA would send Derek Forbort the other way in the JJ/Jarry deal?

Kings do not need any more D at this moment. They are not in a position to contend and want to give their young D a look. His game has gone down hill fast, he is 32 and the Kings are trying to get younger. His contract will be an anchor they don't need. They will trade Campbell later in the year if they don't move Quick. It is just a salary dump that you want Pittsburgh to do

The kings do need LD I don't know where you get this they don't. It's pretty clear they do. They don't have any prospect that is NHL ready right now.
