I posted an ACGM idea of a Marner for Doughty trade and got replies of Drew's 11 million cap hit till he's 38 yrs old would be an "Phaneuf" bad contract going into the future.

I had no idea you did a Marner for Doughty trade. I honestly don't think Doughty will age badly. Seabrook is Seabrook, but look at Keith and how well he is doing. Lets go into the past and see how Lidstrom, Blake, MacInnis, Bourque, Pronger, S. Niedermayer aged. I think he is worth taking a chance on. He is playing great, and will continue to.

Drew to the Leafs

Marner to L.A.

I actually build the trade thru both teams eyes, to see how it measures out.

Doughty will age poorly, plays a very physical game. This is a younger mans league and it’s getting younger all the time. Speed is the way of the new nhl.

Until the playoffs start, right? lol

Watching the Blues Vs. Bruins skating skills in the Finals totally blows your theory out the window.

No it certainly does not. If you think guys like Parayko and petro can’t skate you need to watch a bit closer. How many 38 yr old rhd are they sporting?

Blues have a good team for the playoffs for sure. They also have some guys that can skate.

The point of adding Drew (which is impossible) is getting a Dman in his prime (albeit twilight) to win the Cup before the 3 Amigos (Matthews, J.T. and Marner) walk away into UFA in 5 or less years.

J.T. and Marner will probably stay until the Leafs don't want them anymore. But it's easy to imagine both Matthews and Nylander wanting to leave in 5 years or less.

Matthews would want to play in the States, it's just like K. Leonard with the Raptors left a.s.a.p.
And Nylander is too much like his dad, he'll chase the money (or outlast his welcome) and become a journeyman.

you know the weird thing is, I see Marner as more of a payday chaser and a journey man.... going paycheque to paycheque to the highest bidder.

Daddy Marner and Marner's agent yes will forever chase the $$$, Mitch would play his whole career in the blue and white gladly.

Hmmm... funny that’s not what marner said. It is exactly what nylander has said.... and kapanen. Both two have stated that there is no where else they would rather play. Maybe Matthews will want to move on. Or maybe he gets the C and is treated like a hero and realizes that maybe a place like Toronto is where he belongs. One guy will not make or break your team, in 6 years who knows what the leafs will look like.
