You have this confused. Okposo is the "better" player, but Backes is a better bad contract. Okposo is twice as long.

Depends how he produces, not only that Boston can offer compensation to sway the decision. Okposo is better than his stats, but got supplanted on the first line by Reinhart, was given a green center with Mittelstadt (the whole line suffered), and played a lot of 4th line time. But when on the PP, with Eichel, he had a career high pp goals. Sabres have no room for him in the top 6 though to give him that opportunity, and the Sabres 3rd line is completely unknown at this point.

Yeah S18 it's bad...

Kyle O @ US$6mil until April 2023…
DB @ US$6mil until June 2021…
and for reference...B Marchand (and his 100pts) was a third rounder!

It's bad. That trade helps one team, the one where a fan-base waiting 50years wants the cup.

BUFF:
You'd bury DB in the press box >50% of the time like any team is likely going to do.
You get cap relief TWO years earlier by getting DB (ask TO/Vegas/NYR about the importance of Cap) and
You get a 3rd (stats-wise that's NHL calibre kids mofo)!

BOS:
KO?

Yeah D. Sweeney is going to take that call..."bring bring", "bring-bring"...

A 7th can be NHL calibur. The %s arent high but they can be. So that argument means nothing. You get doubled production and a player that can easily rebound with an opportunity in a role on a team that is better suited for him so its not teally 2 years of cap relief if Okposo produces better in Boston than he does in Buffalo.

See above. Okposo produce better from the 4th line than Backes produced on the 2nd

K. 4 years of crap vs 2 years of crap.

This is trash, and comparing it to the Lucic deal is worse

I dont think Okposos crap and hes shown he has potential to rebound like Neal shows, with a change of scenery.

And if Lucic only had 2 years left, the oilers never would have made that deal.this is a one sided homer proposal

No chance Boston does this, two extra years for a player that's just as bad, 29 vs. 20 points in a fourth line role.

Leaf fans are coming here to tell you this is awful. Not a single person has thought this was close to fair. Everyone has said it’s awful for Boston. When everyone disagrees with you, you’re probably missing something.

I am an obvious Sabres fan here.
Shibbal18 is correct, Okposo gets terrible ice time and his stats reflect that. When I make a team, I put him among the top 6. With Krejci he would do well and give Boston secondary scoring.
That being said, I do not think Boston would make this trade.
I could see other trade partners, but Boston is not one.
Edit:
On the other hand, since Boston's window is closing, they may view this as a short term one or two last push to win the Stanley Cup.
With the resent trades that Betterall has consummated, who knows what will happen.

Boston needs cap room to sign their RFAs to long term deals (vs. bridge contracts) much more than secondary scoring. I'd rather give up a first to dump Backes to give McAvoy/Carlo 8 years (and space for a deadline move like Johansson).

No cap relief, 2 extra years, and just hoping Okposo plays well with Krejci doesn't help the Bruins at all.
