All things considered, with 4.133M in buyout penalties (Sekera, Pouliot, Gryba) and an additional 750k in salary retention from Lucic this is more than likely one of the best roster versions you could hope for.

Gags to WPG - they only have 7 forwards signed for next season and 19M to play with. Even with signing Laine, Connor, and Copp that only puts them to 10. Gags gives them a 1 year stopgap on the 4th line.

Pulju+ to NYR - cap dump on NYR's part. Both Namestnikov and Buchnevich can definitely play on the Oilers top6, solving the issue of Nuge's linemates.

Russel to OTT - OTT still paying MacArthur 4.6M to ride pine (injuries), might as well have Melnyk save a bit of cash to pay someone to actually play on the team.

Jones to VGK - It's no question they're in a crunch, needing just that tiny bit to seal the deal with Gusev. I think they want to keep him. McNabb just gives the Oilers a better option on the 3rd line if they want to push for playoffs this season.

Kassian to FLA - losing Lucic meant losing toughness. Losing Kassian in addition, I'm really pinning my hopes on Nurse and Khaira to police the opposition. Pysyk gives the Oilers some stability on the 2nd pair as he does move the puck and himself quite well. Not a point producer, but Nurse is there to prove last year's 41 pts wasnt a fluke.
