Playoff team w 2 more additions amp the subtractions

Created by: rktkt66
Team: 2019-20 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 22, 2019
Published: Jul. 22, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade # 1 - BUF/LA: Sabres add proven 2-way RW for 1st line; Kings add veteran LW of same age and at lower cap hit with more speed along with prospect defenseman. LA hasn't begun any extension talks with Toffoli - as he's from the Toronto area, he could thrive playing close to home on Eichel's wing just as Skinner did. Kings swap expiring contracts of former Cup winners and add much-needed youth to defense corps.

Trade # 2 - BUF/AZ: Coyotes add veteran LHD who Housley knows and trusts; Sabres acquire draft pick and cap space.

Trade # 3 - BUF/WPG: Sabres add top 6 scoring winger on term; Jets add top 4 RHD with experience at less cap hit and with term, as well as 2 prospects.

Trade # 4 - BUF/OTT: Senators add bottom 6 forward for depth/experience; Sabres acquire draft pick and cap space.

Trade # 5 - BUF/DAL: Stars add bottom 6 winger and swap their 3rd rounder in 2021 for Sabres 4th rounder acquired in Wilson trade. Sabres free up roster spot for Smith and cap space.

Trade # 6 - BUF/ANA: Ducks add much-needed depth on RHD on affordable cap hit; Sabres acquire draft pick and cap space.

Demotions: Sobotka & Hunwick waived; both clear. Hunwick reports to Rochester; Sobotka reports initially but departs for Europe by Thanksgiving, nullifying contract.

1.) Toffoli is much better than sheary
2.) Arizona has ekman Larsson, goligoski and chychrun at LHD and are almost the cap
3.) Adding echl players to ristolainen isnt getting ehlers
4.) Ottawa is at the floor and isnt trading assets for depth players

1.) Toffoli is much better than sheary

Yes, but Kings need to add speed - and Sheary scored more goals last season than Toffoli. It sounds like Blake wants to mix things up and won't be able to dump Carter or Kovalchuk; they also have little in way of defensive prospects which they'd be adding as well.

Goligoski has been an anchor they've been trying to unload for a while - and Tocchet clearly trusts Housley's input with the hire to run the defense. We know how Housley used Scandella last year....

3.) Adding echl players to ristolainen isnt getting ehlers

Stevens was in Rochester (AHL) last year....I could see Sabres retaining some of Ristolainen's salary to help Jets situation but they can't take on Perreault's contract.

4.) Ottawa is at the floor and isnt trading assets for depth players

When they barely have an NHL roster as it is, they can't put jerseys on draft picks of the future. Wilson is the kind of veteran bottom 6 player that a young rebuilding team like Ottawa could be willing to take, especially if it's only for a 1 year commitment at barely over $1M. A 4th rounder isn't a high quality asset either.
