IMO he’s not 2nd line C and I think Chytil should play 3rd line one more year so sign Thornton for one year

No offense, but I have to think Thornton will want to go to a true contender. You guys may wind up having one of the best lines in hockey if Kakko is as good as everyone thinks, but I think you guys are still a couple of years from being a playoff team.

I'd be more concerned about trying to get Shatty and/or Smith off that roster. Addition by subtraction. Also, didn't Chytil play mainly wing?

the strome and namestnikov trades are good. The Buch trade makes much less sense.

Why not try one of your 3 really good C prospects (Chytil, Anderson, Howden) instead of signing a pricey vet

Chytil mainly played wing in his first year yes, but he is primarily a center.. and I would just keep strome.. he played well for us and could fill the temporary void as Howden/Andersson adjust to the NHL for another year. He could be deadline trade bait, especially on the line below. Kreider and Kakko should make him more productive, hopefully he can keep it up-- if he does i honestly would just keep him if he'll sign a reasonable extension

Panarin-Zibanejad-Kravtsov
Kreider-Strome-Kakko
Puljujari-Howden-Chytil (chytil's off side rush goals were amazing last year, back to back games vs boston and chicago--- andersson can replace howden if he takes a step forward too)
Lemieux-Andersson-Fast
