Toronto gave up a first for a $6.25mil buyout. $4mil buyout costs a 1st too?

It would cost the Pens $2.175M cap to have Johnson buried in WBS. Why would they pay Jarry and a 2nd to save $550K in cap space?

Cap people just spend 30 seconds thinking about what they AGM'd before hitting "publish"?

It would be nice if that happened. The cap hit would be 135K in 19-20. That is a 2+ mil in cap savings over burying Johnson...

It'd be nice if people read the description instead of just looking at the trades

this is laughable. Like the penguins would even bother with this mess.

The point stands, just slightly different numbers. The Pens still pay to have dead cap space for years. You don't fix a mistake by making more. That's how you end up with Gudbranson on the team. Two wrongs don't make a right, they make two wrongs.

The biggest cap hit happens in year 4 and that takes the spot of a replacement level player. Realistically theres maybe 3 years before the wheels fall off. You lose a goalie you may lose on waivers anyway and a 2nd (or 1st) round pick that may not make an impact for another 3-4 years. If you want to win now, you may have to burn yourself in the future.

I'm just laying out another scenario. Is it ideal? Not really. But there's no ideal fix other than a mutual contract termination, which won't happen.
