Description
K I expected to find out who this guy is signing with on July 1st like many other people but today is now July 23rd (and people thought kawhi took too long) Many teams have been interested including my second favourite team the canucks and one of my most hated teams the habs. He's not going to get big money anymore, that ship has sailed since not many teams have even 10+ mil in cap space left. Like Vancouver and Montreal are definitely not getting him after signing a few contracts. My number of questions are... how much will he make, where is he going, why hasn't he signed anywhere yet, and the million-dollar question does this have to do with the leafs?? There is just no one else that big to acquire other than Gardiner, Thornton is still expected to be a shark, Marleau won't go anywhere else than San Jose, and Williams I'm pretty sure is either getting resigned by Carolina or retiring. I seriously think the leafs are up to something and maybe have to finish some moves before officially signing a contract with Gardiner in which I guess he would take a money cut and damn can you imagine?? Rielly with Dermott Barrie with Muzzin and then Gardiner with Ceci and if Ceci does good we may have hands down a top 5 best defenses in this league while having a still-potent offense, man I'm shaking thinking about that. Again I have no idea how the leafs pull it off but what do you guys think?

I wouldnt trade Hyman to bring back Jake. We are already short on PKer’s after Brown, Z trade and Hainsey leaving. Need to move Ceci to bring Jake back.

I wanna say I agree and I think something is up with Toronto cause I seen tweets about the possibility of these rumours but then I’d get attacked by all the leaf haters that think they can do the job better than dubas

Hyman can be replaced, plenty of grinders on the Marlies (sadly though with the way Dubas Drafts the Leafs future on grinders looks bleak).

True but I’d rather draft skill and worry about grit through FA or trade

I would for three reasons, Timashov who cant be sent down to the minors without waivers this year will make the team... probably as an extra which IMO is a total waste unless your planning to trade him (he too can play the PK), 2 Ceci has a negative value as of now and It would be like unloading the Marleau contract only less extreme which I dont think you should do with the lack of RHD the leafs have, 3 Hyman's value is at a all time high, coming off a 20 goal season and can play PK, and some teams need wingers rn. Thats why I'd trade him

I was never high on Gardiner but accepted that he was one of the better puck moving D the Leafs had. That said, after getting Barrie I really don't think Gardiner is a good D to bring back even at a discount.

Neither Barrie or Gardiner are known for good defensive play and this is why Gardiner is the guy you don't bring back, cause the Barrie trade suddenly being reversed.
The Leafs just need a steady 3rd pairing D, nothing flashy by any means. That could just mean finding a cheap option (McQuaid?) and toughing it out on 3rd pairing with Ceci/Borgman til Dermott is back.

Also trading Hyman is a mistake. Between now and when Hyman becomes a UFA, Dubas needs to find/develop some grit...and no, Timasov is not ready for a regular spot on the roster.

What is this fascination with Gardiner?
What does he bring to the Leafs that we dont already have now after the Barrie and Ceci trades???

Hyman at least brings something to the team that we lack, why on earth would you trade this away????
If anything, might need more of this to match with the skill guys.

I'd love to move Ceci, even if that meant we needed to attach assist to do so, but this is so we can add better defensive minded D man... not Gardiner.
