Dude we got a 4th for Sparks and can exceed the cap by 10.5 million dollars.
I call that a win
Yeah but you added another 5m in cap.... so it’s a wash. What if sparks comes out of camp takes the backup spot and kills it this year? Think there will be many apologies owed on this site...
This move is genius...
We effectively get more LTIR space this year

As long as players are truly injured and eligible for "long term" as many players, cap or $$$$ as you want.
But this Clarkson and all the others are truly ridiculous. Clarkson does not affect Vegas' cap at all.

I hear by elect David Clarkson the new owner of Robidas Island
I’m more than happy that Sparks is gone. The guy has no business being in the National Hockey League and is straight up cancer in the locker room. Not only does he perform badly and give up soft goals every time he faces a shot he also refuses to take responsibility and blames his teammates. As a goaltender he plays the last line of defence therefore it is his job to make timely saves, yet he doesn’t even give the team a chance to win. A dreadful attitude from a beyond pathetic player.

One word... Pridham...
If anyone doubts that leafs will get full relief just look at his resume...
The other thing this dumb dumb doesn’t understand is that Horton diesn’t Have to go on ltir right away either. He can be placed later.
I would have signed gardiner instead, with no nmc in the first year.
Im not sure what you are saying. This doesn't open space in that way. There was a loophole where we couldn't use Horton's full LTIR if Marner held out meaning he couldn't be signed into the season. Adding another player on LTIR gives us the difference to do that. What it doesn't do is open any REAL cap space to sign Gardiner for example.
Leafs hedging bets and removing any Marner leverage.

Sign gardiner, put Horton on ltir Trade gardiner if marner signs. Clarkson opens up $0 in cap space
We'd have to pay to do that and it opens up all sorts of issues.
Realistically it wasn't possible (at least how you describe it).
100% possible. I just don’t think the leafs wanted to do that to gardiner. This is really a nothing move by the leafs. There are about 10 different ways Pridham could have done this.

Not really. Have you read the thread I linked you?

You are almost coaxing me to make an agm. The leafs don’t have to have an ltir contract. Any contract that they can trade will work. If the leafs were to put gardiner on the roster and be tight against the cap they could ltir Horton and then trade gardiner if Mitch signs.
To me this seems like more of a hedged bet by Pridham. The issue is if Mitch doesn’t sign how do you spend that ltir? It would be December before you could make a trade to fill that 1 and I’m not sure how that affects the salary relief pool.
