I did not think you could trade a player who went through arbitration. I could be wrong however. I like the trades.

They cannot be traded during arb process, but once it is complete and accepted, the player can be traded just like any other.

That said, this deal with WPG is asking too much. A straight Copp for Risto deal would be even.

I assuming you disagree on Risto/Copp part?

If so, expected. I am probably in the minority view on this...but I am very bullish on Andrew Copp. He will put up 55-60 points this year as Winnipeg's 2C.

Absolutely not, Risto as a defender scored more points than a forward, and is even value?

Pay for future value. Andrew Copp will be a quality 2C for many years.

I'm not very well aware on his advanced stats. Do you think he would excel if put in that roll on buffalo?

I love Copp as a player and his underlying numbers suggest he warrants a bigger role.
Reason I built this trade out is there is obv a fundamental difference in what’s WPG values Copp at and what he believes he is worth. Not to mention that BUF is taking on perrault’s salary to give Peg some space

IMO neither Copp not Ristolainen have reached their peak out put.
But taken together the two trades are interesting:
Girgensons, Zemgus ($800,000 retained), Ristolainen, Rasmus; Thompson, Tage; McCabe, Jake [RFA Rights] for Zucker, Jason; Copp, Andrew; Perreault, Mathieu; 2021 2nd round pick (WPG); 2020 2nd round pick (MIN)
Buffalo gives up 2 defensemen for a third center, third LW, second LW and 2 seconds.
This is MY evaluation, every one can have their own:
Ristolainen for Zucker
Thompson for Copp
Girgensons for 2 seconds
McCabe for Perreault
I am sure most Sabre fans would wail and gnash their teeth at these trades, but IMO the first three lines currently favor the Sabres.
i watched Thompson play in the French Connection 3 on 3 and he was the best player on the ice. Ristolainen is reaching the age where many current top NHL defensemen had their break out season.
On the down side the Sabres have 5 LW looking to fill 4 spots, this post trades away one but adds two more.
The Sabres finally have 7 decent defensemen and now this post trades 2 of them.
OK let's roll, let's make a deal on both trades. cheers
