I like the idea of getting goldobin back in return for taking on Eriksson’s contract but I don’t think PIT would be able to do it cap wise even with Eriksson buried in the minors.

Johnson 4 years at 3.5 for Eriksson 3 years at 5.0 (if Van retains 1m) is almost a saw-off, maybe theres another 1-2 million cap dump on the Pens plus Goldobin could likely be signed for closer to 1.0 if he knew that Malkin was his new C? I think Canucks would buyout Johnson soon after seeing him play the same hockey as Gudbranson did!

I’m gonna counter with this idea...if you’re gonna buy out Johnson why not take Gudbranson and a draft pick for Sutter (375K retained) and buy out Gudbranson? That would be a much easier buyout for VAN to take on and I feel like the Penguins could easily find a taker on Johnson if he’s packaged with Rust or Jarry.

I think Benning would be fired and or run out of town if he brought EG back for even a day! Who knows, maybe Johnson could work out here.
