Super cheap contract for a guy that could chip 35+ points in the right situation

Could easily surprise in the NHL level. Don't be surprised if you see him taking a spot from someone by december.

Hes legitimate 4th Line i think....

Agostino - Spezza - Åberg.....its not depth anymore, its abyss.......

injury call up?
Honestly, he's too small to play 4th line. He can't grind and he's not really great defensively.
He's not going to win a top 6 spot that's for sure.
I don't get the what to do about this signing. It's a very meh signing.

No risk, medium reward. Could end up as a steal, could end up as nothing.

Last chance for an attitude adjustment. If he buys in to what it takes to be a success in the NHL, then this will be a great signing. Lots of upside.

Yeah because Tyler Ennis was a bad 4th liner while being a *checks notes* speedy 175cm scorer.

Toronto's lack of ability to have any kind of physical push back is why they keep getting dumped in the playoffs to a rough team like boston. Everyone knows that about them and it's not going to end.
That's why they signed Garret wilson. Who will spend more time on the 4th line than Åberg will.

It is what it is. It's hockey not figure skating.

yes, its a one way contract for minimal dollars for one year.... on the other hand, ice time needed? Left wing/right wing how much ice minutes does he require to be effective? you're running out of Cash, over abundance of wingers, and Marner still isn't signed, oh and before i forget, you're in the negative now.

Lol! Am I right? I bet that dummy Dubas doesn't even realize he's over the salary cap!

All these depth forward signings is an insult to all the hard working Toronto Marlies, I'd be super pissed off, developing into the Leafs system, only to get passed over for another teams fringe players ?

Dubas is slapping the face of every Marlie and we thought he was proud and like his team he build as a minor league GM.

I give these signings a yes, most of them amount to nothing, but collectively it's a reasonalble strategy. It creates incentive by creating competition, and he can attract some of the better fringe players because Dubas is offering guaranteed one way cash. The league minimum dollars make it so they can be fully buried, and if 6-7 guys go into camp for 3 jobs, and you end up with 3 solid 4th liners for $2.1M total, you are essentially using cash to be as efficient as possible at that position. In the meantime he will manage to get some veterans to move back down to the marlies as some will make it through waivers. The players understand this might happen, but probably take the gamble since they are getting a one way deal.

most of you must have never seen him play. Got to watch him a good amount while he played for the wild. Here is my take on him. Tons of skill and talent, that;'s where the positives end. He is super lazy, doesn't play a lick of D. When the play is in your zone its like the other team is on the PP he is that bad. Terrible back checker. LAZY. Won't last with the big club long. You coach will tear him apart. He was in the press box his last days with the ducks, then our coach got pissed at him and he was a healthy scratch a ton at the end of the season for us. He is taking a roster spot from someone who deserves it.

Its a known fact, his lazyness....but sometimes some things just need the proper kick in the balls to start working, lets see if being in contender Team will bring the best out of him.....700k ? low risk, uncertain reward.....

Look at the coaches that have had him and you tell me that in any of his stops that's what they thought also. He needs to get cut or sent down for a season to figure out if hockey is his passion because i don't see it. He isn't worth a roster spot. Especially in Toronto.
