Liljegrin was a 1st round pick, plus another 1st? Leafs should get Stecher instead of Tanev, Baertschi is good, and a 2nd or 3rd.

Try to make the math work where the QO would be 11 million at the end of a 7 million x 3 year contract. Can't be done.

So unless they have changed the rules, my understanding is post Kovalchuk's CBA breaking contract a person's annual total income can not change by more than 30% from one year to the next and the highest paid year can not be more than twice the lowest paid year. Thus you can't have an average contract of 7 million for three years that can reach 11 million in its last year.

For example if the last year is 11 million, then the lowest amount the first year can be is 5.5 million. Then because of the 30% rule it could only go to about 7 million the second year, then it still couldn't even reach 11 million.

that's interesting I'm not sure on how that works because I was looking at meiers contract his works out to year 1: 4mil, year 2: 4mil, year 3: 6 mil and year 4: 10 mil so I'm thinking it may have changed because if I follow what your saying he would have to have his lowest year be 5 million not 4
