How to fix our D (1st post)

Created by: hockeymad

Description
So the one area I wish the leafs had gone after was a top pair dman preferably right handed. So seeing the rumour is St.Louis wanted Larkin for Shattenkirk my thinking is maybe van Reimsdyk being the same cap hit one year longer and fits a need might do the trick. The islanders trade is to get few d prospects that could help us short term or maybe even compete for a roster spot for spate parts that could give islander cheap depth

My thinking was Pelech is probably only a 3rd pair dman and Mayfield lack a foot speed will relegate him to depth dman in the NHL so they probably won't make the islanders roster longterm. Hunwick and Holland will give them depth.

Love the JVR for Shattenkirk deal, not so sure St. Louis would do it straight up like that but it's in the neighbourhood I would think

I like the deal in theory, but you then have no top 6 LW for next year if you trade JVR. I think we need to hold him one more year to help shelter the prospects, unless we throw Michalek on the top line, which is a horrible thought. Maybe Kapenen and a pick for Shat?

Don't know if Shattenkirk is a real fix for the D. Well maybe for one year. Reilly, Gardiner, Zaitsev, Marincin and Carrick are certainly OK for the first five for a team that is going to out of the playoffs. No need to rush by giving away any assets.
