Watch ben harpur play

Harpur is a 6/7 guy. How is he better than Gretzky, Orr, Lemieux, Howe, etc? And you're saying he's better than JOHN SCOTT? That's crazy!

It's not like this kid was a 1st rounder. Most likely he'll never play in the NHL. Guys like Will Butcher and Jimmy Vesey are the exception.

Oh, right. I forgot. Fair working conditions are only applicable to 1st round picks, Ivy League graduates, and Nobel prize winners. My bad.

By that standard is has to be McDavid. Dan Marino wasn't even the greatest QB of his generation.

Dan Marino was probably the best pure passer ever in the NFL. If he ever had a defense, a RB, or a decent offensive line... he would be talked about as the greatest QB ever.

Who? Just so you know, there's no way Harpur is as good as all-star MVP John Scott. Scott is the best player in NHL history. If there's ANYONE who was as good as Scott it's Gretzky. But i think Scott is the best of all time.

If harpur had more points than gretzky, he would have more points on gretzky!

it's not like anyone loses in this trade either. marino can sign with a team he prefers, pens get a potential defensemen and the oilers get a replacement pick.

Would you want to be on the penguins or the oilers?

Excellent bet by Rutherford, IMO Marino's value today is a 5th rounder. He will eat EG's in next 2 yrs.

Its about opportunity. If Marino was signed today, and is what he appears to be ((a 7 NHL D) Pens have exactly 1 RD blocking his way as a call-up (30 yr old Zach Trotman). If both signed, I don't think unsigned Will Reilly would block him. Marino has all the tools and has been hard-matched for 2 yrs. Similar skills as a 23 yr old Jeff Petry, without any kind of favourable offensive deployment (you'll see soon enough).

With Edm, he's got Persson, Jones (LHD who plays Right side), Bouchard & Bear (and possibly Day) blocking him. with Kemp and Bergland unsigned.

Stupid Oilers, eh?

Are you saying Harpur is better than Gretzky? The only player better than Gretzky is John Scott.

Considering their lack of cap space this summer, I think EDM has had a pretty solid off-season. They still have to spend about $5M on buyouts/retained salary next season, but I loved the Neal for Lucic trade. Now, they need to ship Puljujarvi out and develop their young prospects. Players like Yamamoto, Bouchard, and Broberg are the keys to turning around the dumpster fire left behind by the worst GM in NHL history. I think they'll turn things around and make the playoffs in 2020-21.

Hate kids who refuse to play for the team that drafted them

I agree I always think of them as selfish. Just like Jimmy Vesey when he jumped around a bunch

No it's Ben Harpur

Ben Harpur played 2nd Pair minutes for the Sens last season.

This year he's in a 4-way dogfight for the Leafs press-box:

Rielly
Muzzin
Dermott
------------
Gravel
Marincin
Harpur
Sandin

I said "dogfight" not "he's better than Gravel".

But TBH I don't really know ... I haven't watched either one of them play more than a few games.

So I'll take your word that Gravel is better ... is he better than Marincin too? Is Harpur better than Marincin?

19 year old Sandin is probably better than all 3 of them though.

wink

If I was 22 and facing 2 years in the minors I'd look at the age of the Oilers core and the Pens core and realise that by the time I make the league the Pens will be falling apart just when the Oilers are starting to make some noise...

who am I kidding - Marino just looked at the RHD depth chart and realized that he was buried alive in Edmonton. He obviously wants to turn pro this year and Edmonton couldn't accomodate. They also have unsigned RHD Kemp and Berglund who are better / have higher ceilings than Marino anyhow, so it's no loss to Edmonton to trade this kid.
