EDM wasn't gonna sign Marino anyway, so it's good that they at least got something for him. Still, I'm not sure anyone saw this coming. Marino is the real deal; he's also a Norris contender if you're an analytics nerd.

I don't think that's quite fair. Marino was drafted so late because he let it known he was going to complete college and then be a UFA. Marino had no intention of signing with the Oilers, so the Oilers got a 6th rounder which allowed the the Pens to sign in before he became a UFA a few months later.
Similar to NYR Fox. Sure he was drafted by Calgary, and then his right to Carolina. But he had no intention to sign with those teams, and waited for the opportunity to sign with Rangers.
