Don't overpay Marner by 1.5-2 million dollars?

And if he doesn't take anything else but that?

For what's been rumored, that's also a discount.

11 million isn't an overpayment for Marner at all.

at 6 years it's a huge over payment. 2 wingers in the league make move than 10 million and both cover mostly UFA years and 6 years covers 1 for Marner...

Then the Leafs have lots of cap space. No other team offers an 11m offersheet, If Leafs and Marner don't budge, (and neither side has to), Marner plays for free in a beer league.

It's kinda of a silly statement "if he doesn't take anything else but that." Then it just might be ZERO dollars.

Yes it is lol. It is a massive overpayment. Fair would be ~6@8.75-9.00 +/- 500k

He wants to play in the NHL right? If he does then he needs to find someone to pay him, and no one is going to cave to his outrageous demands.

11M AAV is only acceptable on 7-8yr term deals. if that's what Mitch is looking for he can accept an offer sheet and we'll take our quartet of 1st round picks and offer sheet Provorov/McAvoy/Tkachuk/Connor. However I don't see it coming to that, I expect Mitch and TOR to reach a solution on a bridge deal at ~6.75M AAV on a 2 year deal or ~8M on a 3 year deal.

Somehow I doubt it.

It's a very large overpayment.

Reminder to everyone the largest every contract awarded to a winger coming off their ELC in this CBA is Tarasenko's 7.5 million x 8 years.

That year was actually really similar to Marner's (significantly more goals, significantly less points, but points relative to league leaders were similar as scoring is way up this year). AND marner plays with a stud in Tavares. Tarasenko didn't have that.

This idea that RFA wingers off ELCs will make huge money is purely hypothetical. It's literally never happened

Considering that no OS has materialised there is no reason to cave for Dubas. We have made moves to allow us the flexibility to go through another holdout (the Clarkson trade was pure cap brilliance) and signing a bunch of depth guys to fill in if he is gone.

I think ultimately they will bridge Marner for 3 years and it will get solved around camp as he has no leverage anymore and wants to prove himself.

Wouldn't a 6 year deal be buying two of Marners ufa years? Thought it was 3 years for an ELC and 4 years of RFA

Yes it would cover 2 UFA years.

27 or 7 years of contracts. ELC of 3 years, 4 more years=7 years. You are correct.
