yeah about 500k too high. but they got it done. Don't love the way Gorton handles contracts. He rarely gets it done below projected value.

It's not a bad deal. He got less than Vrana and had higher pt/gm and g/gm rates.

Nice for both sides. Was hoping to get him locked in an Arvidsson esque deal, but this is a good bridge. Now to hopefully trade Vlad and Strome and buyout Smith before Wednesday.

Maybe now we can stop seeing EDM fans posting Offer sheets on Buch.

it's not a bad deal at all. You just have to have plenty of your main guys under value to really compete for a cup long term. Boston has their core 3 all under market value. So does Colorado, So does Carolina, So does Tampa, So does Nashville, Vegas, St. Louis, Winnipeg.

For the Rangers, Kreider and Mika are the only ones that are under market value and Kreider is either going to get a market value contract or traded. You can't really construct a cup contender unless you have a core of players signed long term for below market value. That's just the way it is.

That's because Boston signed their guys to long term deals before they fully broke out. Those deals were close to market value when signed, but now they seem great. It's the same thing with Mika. If you lock your guys down long term before they're done developing you set yourself up for that

It's weird that you picked the one team this point really really does not apply to...

Krejci, Marchand, Bergeron all signed their current contracts at age 29....

Marchand signed after a 60 point season and hasn't been below 80 since.

Bergeron signed after a shortened season and really has only had one really great season.

Krejci signed for 10% of the salary cap at time of signing and also has only had one really great season.

Wait how does Boston "long term deals before they fully broke out" if you just named 2 guys that "only had one really great season" since signing those deals. It's literally a contradiction.

But also "Bergeron has only had one really great season"? lol wut
