Maybe if they got couturier coming back. Even still, not going to happen. Maybe in a few years theyll explore the option if they feel Johnny might leave in free agency. Definitely wont happen now though.

I do feel the same. I'm only thinking if they wait until he's in his final year here, the value coming back could be much less based on numerous factors.
If his production dips in the next couple seasons, and being in the final year any team trading for him would have to know 100% that he'll sign with them or they won't give up very much.
One of the only things that boosts his value right now is he's still on that extremely team friendly contract which is appealing to any team since they get more than either 1 season, or what's left of a season if it is trade deadline time when he's moved.
Absolute worst case for me is keep him through 2019/20 and if the Flames don't advance far, or god forbid miss the playoffs then you absolutely look at what you can get back for him.


PS...or just move Monahan instead
