Explain your math.

Petry > Brodie.
Retained Petry >>> Brodie.

Hes not a first round pick plus Brodie better. The flames are looking at clearing cap space, and adding a forward, not obtaining an older, similar level defenseman that costs about the same just because he has 1 more year on his contract. And losing a first round pick in the process.

The trade makes literally no sense for the Flames. That's why it gave me a chuckle.

As a buffalo fan I love this trade to have Druin along side eichs or Casey is a big upgrade as our d core is solid

Retained he does. He costs Broodie and is an upgrade.
Contract lasts 2 years as well. That late first (20-30) is worth the upgrade to both teams.

The flames wouldnt trade Brodie and a third round pick for Petry with no retained salary man. The Flames arent looking for a minor defense upgrade at the same cost cap wise.

There is no way they would trade a top asset, like a first round pick, and a top 4 dman for a slightly better top 4 dman.

Regardless; You believe Brodie to be a minor downgrade to Petry (despite proven otherwise).

There's no where to go from here.

Petry isnt a major upgrade. Dude, I get it, you value your teams players a lot higher. But theres no one that would agree with you saying Petry is a MAJOR upgrade over Brodie

Some dude comes up with a WAR rating after a single season and it's your standing point.

Jeff Petry- 31 years old, turns 32 on December 9, 2019

609 GP 58G 155A 213P plus/minus -103

T.J Brodie- 29 years old, turns 30 June 7, 2020

570 GP 44G 203A 247P plus/minus +7

How about the last 6 seasons? Or does that not suit your argument? Or better yet, why not look at all 9 years Brodie has been in the league and compare those ratings with Petry????

Both have been playing with their current team for the past 5.
One season wasn't enough, neither is 5. I'm just showing you Petry is an upgrade on Brodie overall.

Ya but he isnt a major upgrade, which is my whole point. Maybe a swap 1 for 1 with no retained salary,(and that still would never happen). Adding a first round pick in that trade to retain 1 million over 2 years on a guy that's going to be 33 after the contract ends, is just ludicrous. It would never happen.
