getting DeAngelo version 2

Created by: Trickster
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 27, 2019
Published: Jul. 27, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Scenario :

Rangers sign Lemieux to a contract 1 year deal @ 1 million AAV

Now Rangers are approximately 5.2 million over cap.
They will need to dump more than Kreider in a trade to be cap compliant and still need players back in trades to play those top 6 forward roles.

Leafs offer sheet DeAngelo with promise of a top 4 D man spot on the NHL roster.

Then use assets to dump Ceci in a trade assuming Rangers dont match the offer sheet.

Is the below trade with assets enough for the Devils to pull the trigger??

A long term deal for Deangelo is 4.25 +

That puts you at 1st and 3rd compensation. You want to do that?

I think that's easy to say right now because Rangers cap situation.
Reality is look at other RFA d man signings and make a comparable, 3.5 looks about right to me.

But 4 years does not equal long term?

Anyway the scenario posted in the description makes somewhat sensible. Ceci might also be taking unwarranted hate because of his timein Ottawa.

Perhaps he's not as bad as he's looked in Ottawa. Definitely a 2nd pair D on most middle of the road teams.

This is the list of dmen who are RFA's that have been signed for 4 yrs or longer

Lindell: 5.8 mil x 6 yr

Last year it was,

Dumba: 6 mil x 5 yr
Miller: 3.875 mil x 4 yr
Skjei: 5.25 mil x 6 yr
Hanifin: 4.95 mil x 6 yr
Theodore: 5.2 mil x 7 yr

So now that you can actually look at the other RFA dman signings. What do you see?

DeAngelo and NYR have him on the Qualifying Offer so he is locked in so no offer sheet can be made.

What assets do we need for a top 6?

You're not a fan of Kakko, Panarin, Zibanajad, Chytil, Kravtsov, Buchnevich? That's assuming Kreider is traded lol

The 6 or 7 year deals don't matter.
Only signed him to 4 years.

Look at signings of D man this year too.

Poink signed for 3 million 2 years.
Chariot signed for 3.5 million 3 years.
Nemeth signed for 3 million 2 years.
Sanheim signed for 3.25 2 years.

Miller deal looks like a good comparison, difference is less than 500k.

I think I am good with my line of thinking.

you're literally equating buying out RFA years with buying out UFA years. I don't have time to educate you on how this works.

But take a look at this and see what the projected numbers are for each year as you scroll right and try to make sense of it....
