You arent giving up enough in both trades and the defense is now one of the worst in the league

McDavid already has the ultimate winger in Draisaitl. Oilers need a 3C who can carry a line and maybe another top 4 defenceman

Who's the usual 2C in Edmonton?

K so they need a top 6 winger for the Nuge then. How do they get that guy now?

And yes they could use a top 4 D but I think they can get by with what they got till Bouchard and Broberg arrive, who knows maybe Bouchard will play this season.

Just need a serviceable 3C imo and it should be easy enough to fill that spot.

Holland hasn't done a very good job with this offseason so far aside from the Lucic trade.

I've got:

Draisaitl - McDavid - Kassian

Neal - Nuge - Chiasson

Granlund - ???? - Archibald

Nygard - Khaira - Gagner

Klefbom - Larsson

Nurse - ????

Russell - Benning

That's my lineup and you'll see that everybody on there is slotted where they're supposed to be. Lots of question marks in the top 6 but Kassian did play his role well last year so that solves that problem. Chiasson and Nuge had some chemistry and I think Neal is somewhere between last year and his career average so I'd be fine having Neal score 15 goals and 20 assists on that second line. Granlund and Archibald are both checking wingers who's scored 10 goals in the past, something the Oilers didn't have last year.

We also have enough depth from our AHL team to spot in for injuries. Benson, Marody, Haas and maybe Yamamoto for forwards, and then Jones, Persson, Bouchard, Bear, Lagesson on defence.

But yea if we fill those two holes, I think we'll be a competitive wild card team. We still have some cap space to play with and JP and some picks so I'm hoping Holland can fill those holes. If I were to grade Holland's offseason so far I'd probably give him a B. The small bets he's made and that Lucic trade did nothing but improve our team. But again, still two important holes to fill though.

You're not going to get Kase with that package, he had 20 goals 2 years ago and his numbers last year extend to 30 goals and 55 points over 82 games

Your d is by far the worst in the league. Last place team with that roster. Won’t matter how many goals you score if you are letting in 5/6 a night

Man that doesn't look good.. Lol
Sorry not trying to be a d!ck but that lineup wouldn't give me much hope for improvement this season.
Who knows though maybe Neal rebounds and there's growth from some of the kids and they do alright but personally I would've liked a bit more from Holland this offseason but maybe he's not done yet.
I'd grade his summer at a C+ so far.
Check out the ACGM I did for the Oilers yesterday, I'm not an Oilers fan so wonder what your thoughts on it would be.

I liked what you were getting at. I'm not sure on Sutter though, only way I see us acquiring him is if we send Russell the other way. My ideal target for 3C is Ryan Strome or Pageau who are both RHC. They have the same contract and are close in age but I prefer Strome because: 1) he can PK 2) well liked in the Oilers room 3) still will be RFA after his contract is up. I think if you plug in Strome on that 3rd line I proposed, you could see a shut down line that can go against other team's top lines. Or maybe put Nuge there and Strome with Neal and Chiasson.

Check this ACGM I posted today. I think it makes some sense. https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/257770&post_id=1008778

Yeah I see what you're getting at and I like Strome too but I really think they need a more proven top 6 winger then hoping for a rebound from Neal, a follow up season from Chiasson and that McD and Drai can carry Kassian to respectability.

I just don't see Russell going anywhere and think Sutter has been better in the past then last season so think he's worth the risk, think having two seasons of stability in the 3C spot would be good for the Oilers given where they're at, and a revolving door of players isn't good and I think Sutter would provide some stability and leadership that the Oilers could use. Maybe I should've got a 2nd from Van in that trade considering many think Sutter is a cap dump and that Pulujarvi has perceived higher potential even though Goldobin has put up better point totals so far.

Idk, guess I just would've wanted a bit more aggressive of moves from Holland if I was a Oilers fan,
I don't buy into this idea that they should suck for another early pick or that he has a year of a grace period to figure out where they're at. You've got the best player in the league, get a move on Holland, no time to waste!
