How are the Rangers going to fit Laine under the cap ?

Your current lineup is almost $2M over and you will need $8M+ to sign Laine.

Just a hypothetical. Rangers would absolutely trade Shattenkirk and Kreider in that scenario and Buyouts would be interesting. It’s Laine!

What would it cost them to trade Shattenkirk once the entire league knows he has to be dealt ?

Hypothetical is fine but this goes way beyond that, if you're going to gut your future I'm not sure Patrick Laine is the hill you want to die on.

Of the big name RFAs available I would much rather have Point, Rantanen, Marner or Tkachuk in fact I would be tempted to go with Werenski & McAvoy as well.

Laine is a defensive liability, a poor possession driver and primarily a pp specialist offensively , he tied for 205th in even strength scoring last year and he's not even in the top 60 in the league in 5*5 since he started. Personally that's not the guy I trade away some good prospects and a couple of 1sts for & then write him an $8M+ check annually
