SENS - BRUINS trade

Created by: TCMonkey
Team: 2019-20 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 28, 2019
Published: Jul. 28, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I KNOW BACKES HAS TO WAIVE HIS NTC. THE PURPOSE OF THE ACGM PAGE IS THAT WE GET TO BE THE GMS. SO IN THIS TRADE BACKES WAIVES. SO STFU WITH THE "He would never waive his NTC to blah blah blah".
Boston clears a little cap space and adds Bobby Ryan who will be far more productive than Backes. Ryan LOVES playoff hockey.
They also get Chlapik who is a cheap option to play bottom 6 wing or pivot with some decent offensive upside.
As for OTT, Boedker, Ennis and Hainsey are FOR SURE gone at the deadline. Maybe Borowiecki too. They could also be moving Pageau and DeMelo as they're both UFA but I am hoping not. Either way, more picks and prospects coming. This team will still finish at the bottom and have a top 5 pick at the draft as well as 2 other (late) 1sts and three 2nd rd picks.

Don't think Boston gives up a first in this situation. Ryan's cap issue is much worst then Backes'. I would think to look for a 2nd or 3rd round pick in this trade and include a prospect such as Zboril, Lauzon, or Celharik. Unless Ottawa retains 50% salary for Ryan

Lose the first. Lose the prospects. Ryan with salary retained for backes and a small kicker.

As is, this deal is absurd

No from Boston. As for the description, if you get to be the GM you get to deal with reality of NTCs, Backes declines. ??‍♂️

If B’s give up a 1st they dump Backes cap hit entirely. Not a small portion of it while taking on a longer contract.

no thanks, we wanna get rid of Backes but not giving Andersson for Chlapik and a 1st hahahahahahaha never

No seriously:
We want to get rid of Backes because of his contract, mostly his cap hit ($6M)
By retaining $2M, it only saves $750K for the B's while adding another year.
No logic to do that trade then

Maybe something like Backes+Zboril+pick (not a 1st)+a prospect if needed for Boedker+x thing would work but again, it's hard to find THE deal

Backes got 20 points last year while playing on a team that never fell out of a playoff spot. Meanwhile Bobby Ryan got 42 points on team that never left the basement. Backes is taking up a roster spot and giving you nothing, Ryan can AND WILL contribute. My bet is on the Bruins he'd pot 20 goals. So there is certainly logic to it. OTT might consider retaining more salary but that's as far as they'd go. Clearly BOS would love to move him and aren't finding any takers. I guess he's yours...
