Blockbuster deal with Flames

Created by: JakobBickle
Team: 2019-20 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 28, 2019
Published: Jul. 28, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
tell me how far from reality I am with this one lol

-Let Elie walk after arb hearing
-Sign Ullmark to 1 yr $1.2M prove it deal
-Bury sobotka in AHL (give him an option to pick a location he wants similar to Matt moulson)
-Pilut starts year on IR, moves to 3rd pair LD with Jokiharju, Nelson 7th D.
-Hunwick can stay a healthy scratch through the yr
-Wilson and smith can rotate depending on play, okposo can work into the lineup occasionally or with an injury
-Thompson starts with Amerks, can earn a roster spot with play through the year

Explanation of trades:
-Scandella: Stars defense depth is lacking, can hope for a bounce back yr for a player who was effective 2-way d-man for wild. Price is a 4th in 2021, with a 6th coming back (low risk) + 50% salary retained.
-McCabe: Florida could use a reliable, defensive defenseman. After arbitration. Trade him for a pair of 3rd round picks. (I'm assuming his arb comes in somewhere near his QO which is 1 yr $1.775M)
-Ristolainen: Flames have shown desire to get more physical with recent deals, Risto certainly will address that. Hanifin may have been underwhelming compared to expectations, and adding a RHD could help balance the flames D corps. Taking Frolik helps the Flames cap situation so they can sign Tkachuk, and sending Girgensons to them at 800k cap hit provides valuable depth at a low cost. 2nd for 3rd swap as well as the 2 prospects added to balance the trade. Constructive criticism on this is certainly welcomed!

Sabres fans, let's get excited to cheer for something other than the draft lottery for once!

That is a sure fire no from Calgary. Hanafin stays.

I really like the general idea of this but I have two minor complaints:
1) you will have to add a little more to the Calgary trade. Maybe make the 2nd a 1st or something like that. I think it’s close but a little more from Buffalo would make it perfect.
2) play Frolík on the second line. It would give two young kids a veteran to look up to on their line and would let Reinhart play with Eichel where he did very well last year.

Seems likely, but he didn't necessarily have a great first year with them. I know it's a longshot but an interesting idea

I agree it's probably wishful thinking, maybe take out the 3rd I had the Flames sending back and add a prospect (Samuelsson maybe) to the Flames to sweeten the deal. I think the general idea of the trade isn't ridiculously farfetched though.

On the lineup, the reason I had Eichel + Reinhart split is because Reinhart has shown an ability to drive his own line, and I believe him driving a line with Casey can help his development and cushion him in defensive situations. Frolik I dont think can really drive a line, and Mittelstadt isn't ready to either. I definitely understand your point there though!

Hanifin was fine, career high in points and +18. Think he fits well in the structure of their Dcore.

My suggestions for the Ristolainen trade. Take out Nyberg, Murray, the 6th, and the 3rd. Add in Davidsson/Samuelsson or change the 2nd to a 1st. Fewer pieces moved around, more needs addressed, and the same general idea.

If the Flames move out a defenseman, it's been widely reported that it would first be Brodie and then Hamonic. There's no way they're giving up Hanafin who Treliving has often said is part of the Flames' core.

I also don't see Frolik as a player that fills any holes other than overall depth for bottom 9 - and the Sabres already have a logjam now on LW.
