More like they should not even try. He’s going nowhere.

Mantha would probably be the big piece coming over for Point, but Detroit would need to give up a few more assets, probably some draft picks/prospects that Steve wouldn't be willing to part ways with.

A big thing this trade has going for it is that if Tampa does decide to trade away Point's rights, Yzerman would definitely be interested. But Point will most likely play in Tampa next year just as all the unsigned RFA's will be a part of their previous teams.

Try Larkin, Zadina, Seider, and a 1st or something along those lines. I’m not saying exactly that package, but if you want Point, that value is about what you should be thinking.

Point would be a 60 point player if he wasn't surrounded by Stamkos and Kucherov.

He was closer to a 70 point player who finished 8th in Selke voting with no power play time as a #2C without Stamkos or Kucherov on his line in 2017-18 (not to mention having been the Lightning's best overtime/shootout player). He's on an upward trajectory enough so that he's probably hovering around a point per game without Stamkos or Kucherov right now. But what's important to note is that, while Kucherov makes Point better, Point makes Kucherov better as well. Not to mention their power play would not be anywhere near as lethal as it is right now without Point on that first unit.

Well using the argument against Marner also works for Point. He's leeching off another superstar to boost his numbers.

laugh laugh No way in hell is Point worth a 70-80 point #1C in Larkin plus a potential 50-70 point RW in Zadina plus Seider and a potential lottery pick. Dream on laugh shakes head Help

And this is why Point is staying in Tampa. To you, that return is absurd. To the Lightning, a Cup favorite in win-now mode, if Point is going, they need a replacement (Larkin), and a good supplement for the downgrade (which, based on WAR, point production, chemistry, defensive play, etc. is indeed a downgrade) from Point to Larkin (Zadina) to ensure that the team remains favorites, while receiving futures (Seider) to help the cap situation (Seider would make it easier for us to lose Cernak or Sergachev) which would be the very purpose of moving Point. If you like that deal, great. If not, unless you have a package of comparable value, you can hang up the phone. Why on earth should the Lightning want to replace a 90+ point shutdown center who has chemistry on our lineup with an overage prospect who probably doesn't even make the roster this year, a ~50 point winger, and a 2nd round pick that in all likelihood never amounts to anything but a depth player at best? I'd be wary of trading Tyler Johnson for that return, much less Brayden Point.

Perhaps I went too far with that package with the 1st round pick, but something along the lines of Larkin + Zadina + Seider is exactly the type of package the Lightning would expect for Point. If you don't want to trade away elite talent, you're not getting an elite return. If you want to take advantage of our cap problems, you'll have a much better chance of underpaying for Sergachev in a year from now.

That argument is so ****ing dumb lol.
As if Kucherov and Tavares didn't benefitted from Point and Marner.

I'm on mobile so I can't directly post them but point actually did carry his own weight on the line. Pretty much what people say about marner, is actually what point is.
