Ultimately he is young so it will be alright, but is Vasy really 50% better than Gibson (who should have won the Vezina)?

Good money considering the cap will go up and vasi earned it all. Tampa your on the clock cap wise. Please bring it home and don't waste Victor hedman's career!

Please point. . . Take a bridge deal let there be a miracle. . . He's not taking one. . . Tampa . . . Please win the popcorn maker!

This makes him the third highest paid goalie behind Price and Bobrovsky. He is also 5 years younger than them.

Ok, I don't think this contract will work for Tampa's cap problems at all. Long term goalie contracts like this may back fire in the later half.

This is a good signing in a vacuum, but I just wonder how they're going to shed the necessary salary with all the No Trade/No Move clauses that they've handed out.

Good thing only 4 of the players out of the 13 they have signed next year don't have NTCs. Also none of the movable contracts are above 2 million. If point gets 10 million, they have 5 million for 6 players, INCLUDING serachev

I like Vasi, but you have to look towards the future, he has proven himself, but for how long? goalie can get injured all the time and then their careers can fade off. in 8 years, what are the chances he gets injured?

neat I like the 8 years. I thought he would go for 5. As is the going rate. The cap hit is very reasonable and this could look like a bargain in 5 or 6 years

Way too much money for a team that is trying to contend. I would have thought around 7M. He might be worth it. God knows he's better than overrated Carey Price @ 10.5M. Just think it's too much all things considered.

Why so many no votes? He's one of the best goalies in the league.

It's almost 10 million, and for a team that wants to contend, that is to much, and to much term

Vasy is a very good goalie, but his overall numbers behind one of the best teams in the league aren’t that impressive.
He is still VERY young in terms of goalies so I think he will still become more consistent and the deal will be good in the second half. Just questioning if a 3 year bridge would have been a better option.

Okay, commenting on this contract we have to keep two things separated.

1) The contract itself: it's a big AAV, but it's for 8 years and will cover Vas from 26 to 34 years of age. Now. He's already a Vezina winner (two times Vezina finalist) and he's still not close to his ceiling. Considering that Goalies take more time developing and hit their prime in the late 20ies, and considering that the average contract AAV has exploded during this offseason, this deal is already a solid deal and will look like an amazing deal a couple years from now.
It's quite like the Kucherov deal. Sign him a season prior to his contract is up in order not to have the contract AAV go up even higher. Lightning definitely betting on Vas to getting even better and personally, having see him play since he was in the KHL, there's no doubt in my mind that he's far from his potential. He's been getting steadily better every season, these are the players that you are comfortable giving long term deals.

2) The Lightning cap situation: Tampa is now definitely in a pickle. But having Vas contract figured out gives the Lightning Front Office a better view for the projections and how to move in order to make it all fit under the cap.
But I sure as hell think that a move is in the making. Before next offseason ends, one of Palat or TyJo will be packing IMO

Have you seen the Gibson deal? That was considered market value at the time of signing, maybe a small discount if I'm being generous and he put up similar stats. He actually should have won the Vezina this year over Vasy.

This is too much for too long, full stop.

And even if it wasn't, you really shouldn't be paying goalies that much with term. 5 years is the max you should be giving out. The Andersen deal is more or less the ideal contract for a goalie

Because this should have been shorter term for less money. I am going to take a look through some Tampa as from next year... I’m willing to bet no one had him at 9.5m...

I had him for 7 ish but on a 5 years deal. Now that he's won the Vezina, the AAV takes a hike and add the max term to it and you'll find yourself with this deal.

The term is so much though. And considering he has been on the a good team his entire career, we don't really know how good he is

Took a look through some agm’s some leafs fan had him at 10m x 8 years and got ripped for it. Other than that everyone seems to have him at 8m or less. Even on an 8 year term.

Like I already posted earlier in an agm. It’s not horrible because it is an 8 year deal. But it certainly isn’t great either. I still think a 7-8m x 5 years would be a much better signing.
