I'd call this a good signing regardless of how he actually plays over the next two years. Gusev should be a top 6 forward upon arrival if he's as advertised and even if he flames out, NJ has the cap space and the contract will be off the books quickly.

Overpayment, and I think he doesn't make a good transition.

Solid gamble by NJD. Is this guy the next Panarin? Probably not, but the upside is there and on a 2 year term it is worth the risk. The 2nd and 3rd round picks give the VGK a chance at a player in the future but that chance is pretty slim.

I don't think he's gonna flop at the NHL level. He looked dynamite at the world championships

For a team like Devils, it's a great low risk high reward deal.

A team like the Devils can afford this gamble. If he plays well and elevates the team, it could be another incentive for Hall to stay

I think that in a year he will be better than Panarin and 80+ point in this year. And this is a very bad deal for Vegas.

Devils has sorta gone "all in" this year. Using cap space to trade for Subban and now Gusev. Along with Hughes, trying to be relevant again.

Wow, 2nd + 3rd + $4.5 million for a 27yr old winger whose never skated a shift in the NHL...amazing.

Maybe they think they might get another Pavel Dorofeyev in the third round this year. Or maybe they saw Minnesota trade a third-rounder and a fourth-rounder to move up and get a second-rounder from Carolina. You never can tell until the future.

He plays one 'meh' year in the NHL and than goes back to the KHL next season.

Excellent deal overall. Minimal risk for a team with their cap space, and this is yet another step toward proving to Hall they intend to be contenders sooner rather than later.

The AAV may look high for a guy who hasn't played in the NHL, but he's been one of the more dominant players in the next-best league for a few years now.

If he plays up to the hype, this'll be fantastic. If he doesn't, it's a short term contract that isn't won't interfere with resigning their important players. Low risk, high reward, pretty good!

I am only going off historical values as those picks have a roughly 40% and 35% chance of yielding an NHL player.

I dont know why people say its a risk, he just put up 82 pts in 62 and last year he had similar stats to panarins last year in the KHL
