Sharks top 5 Prospects

Created by: Eklund
Team: 2019-20 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 30, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Summaries from Dobbers Prospects

1) Ryan Merkley - Elite offensive defenseman with huge offensive upside. Concerns about his character and defensive play make him a bit risky, though.

2) Ivan Chekhovich - Goal scoring winger, his ability to work the angles and shoot the puck is his biggest strength.

3) Sasha Chmelevski - Loads of skill and potential, defensive play and consistency are the only question marks.

4) Alex True - With hands and size to spare, True will have two years with the Barracuda to refine his skating.

5) Mario Ferraro - Offensive defenseman that loves to get up in the rush. Could be a top-four guy down the road.

Top Goalie Prospects

1) Josef Korenar - Athletic goaltender with starter upside, needs some work on rebound control. Similar in style to fellow Czech, Petr Mrazek.

2) Andrew Shortridge - Sizeable netminder that fits the NHL mold, he’s 6-4 and plays a blocking style

3) Zacharie Emond - Technically sound goalie with a big frame, long term project with NHL backup upside

4) Mike Robinson - The definition of a project goaltender, Robinson should not be on anyone’s radar at this time.

5) Jake Kupsky - Lanky goaltender with an NHL sized frame. Shows stretches of encouraging play but has yet to show he can perform consistently as a starter.

It is. He's developed very well and dramatically improved his defensive play last season. -29 two years ago and -1 last year playing against opposing teams top forwards. He wants to make the Sharks this year.

I think he needs another year to develop. But he was the second to last cut from camp last year, just before Chekhovich.

Great list except for I don’t follow Ferraro a lot out of our prospects, has he really stepped up that much? If so good for him.

He's good. Played with Cale Makar in college and was the captain last year. Great skater and very hard worker. I think he makes Sharks roster in 2020.

Sharks prospects are really underrated. People usually don't value points in the CHL very highly, but a lot of the guys have performed well even on bigger stages, like the World Juniors (both Chmelevski and Chekhovich), and the CHL playoffs (Gregor and especially Chmelevski). Merkley is gonna be a stud, especially considering he's gonna be on the 3rd pair for his first year or 2, so he can really find his footing in the league without being thrust into a tough spot, same with Ferraro.

Sasha is going to be 3C full time in the next two seasons...will likely get some games this year. He's been fun to watch and already has strong chemistry with Chekhovich.

Since Doug Wilson's son took over the scouting department theyve been taking more risks and it's going to pay off. they've doubled their euro scouts and especially in Russia hence having Chekhovich, Spiridonov, Knyazev, Knyzhov, Ibragimov in the system now and picking up Sund, Kellman, Suomela, Sorensen and Simek in recent years as unsigned FA's.

Not to mention Sasha's performance at the World Juniors.
