Just wait until after he signs. No one will really care anymore. He'll sign, he'll produce and the leafs will win a lot of games. Matthews had above ppg average and similar assists and goals while playing with two first-full-season mid-6 forwards who lack any sort of above average creativity and he was driving play on his line (also played with Marleau and Ennis to start the year and dominated) and despite month-long injury scored almost 40 goals.. He is a monster and one of the best players in the league. Thats why.

Marner was playing with one of the best players in the league for the whole season and wasnt driving his line at all. He helped to a certain point getting Tavares 47 goals because he was the best winger he played with. Marner deserves like 9mil on 6+yr deal and below 7.5 on 3yr deal. 4 and 5 yrs are not options other than nonexistent offersheet bs. And getting 10+ to Marner is equivalent of giving 7.5+ to Bailey basically.

Cause small players are considered soft (even though AM34 can't stay healthy). Same reason a lot of them turned on Will Ny the Hockey Guy.

Im certainly not saying he is passenger lol. Put Nylander in his spot to Tavares and on PP1 for the whole year and Nylander would get 90+ points too. Point is.. this is not about points. Marner is great talent but he is not worth 10+ even on 7-8yr deal..

Those hockey experts are also saying that Marner would sign offersheet and deserves same money as Matthews. Do you really consider them experts? Be honest. Tavares drives the line there. Marner doesnt but as I said, he is talented player with a lot of skill, but he is not 10+ great. Matthews is driving his line. He didnt have good players to lift him up and he still had above ppg average. Nylander and Matthews are gonna dominate next year.

As for WSH.. Kuzy is also great player just like Marner is, but when Ovi puts the show on, he is the best player on ice by miles. Same goes to Matthews. Matthews is the scariest leaf imo, second is Tavares and maybe third Marner.

Marner is a fantastic player, but JT inflated his point totals and those are the primary argument for his being worth a ton. JT drove the hell out of that line and marner was just the set up man (who didn't even do that good a job as the season progressed).

except a lot of that was because of JT. It's not a coincidence marner put up bigger numbers last year, after seeing players like bailey, moulson, and okposo get 20 to 30 point bumps playing with JT.

Because Matthews is a goal scoring c who has produced at superstar levels himself. And there was PRECEDENCE.

Marner was a borderline Allstar until he got a superstar c and the largest contract ever given to a winger off ELC in this CBA made 7.5 million for 8 years (Tarasenko) and he was a goal scorer who did it without any other superstars.
