If I had to guess it will be in the 25-30 million dollar range so this could look very good in a few years. I like the bet by Sakic here.

5m aav. Solid little deal for Sam. Betting on him to take the next step and be a steal for the majority of the contract. With Barrie moved out, his point totals will increase getting more PP time and 1st pairing deployment with the Mack Line

5m for half of your top pair until he is 29 years old. I will take that. The Nashville model

5 is probably a little high for this year and next, but for the vast majority of this contract this is gonna look fantastic for the avs.

People dont really know how good he is defensively and how smart he is as a player. hes such a good sound Dman but think bc hes small that he is an offensive oriented guy. 5m to be able to more than handle top pairing minutes...Ill take that. The points will come around the 35-40 mark now that barrie is gone and they PP time and the deployment with mack line opens up for him and Makar.

Byram?

Byram hasnt played a pro game yet but yeah he could be that guy too. Girard is the top pairing guy already. Either with EJ during the regular season or in teh playoffs wiht Makar (which is still wild what those 2 did in the playoffs as 20 year olds playing 20mins a night)

Oh I know he is a defensive guy, which is why I like this. If his offense ever comes, even to the tune of 25-30 points this will be fantastic. You'd like to have the AAV start with a 4 on those guys, but with cap inflation and where the avs are at I think they will be just fine lol.

I would have loved a 4.5m aav but 500k is not going to make me through a hissy fit about this. When Ristolainen makes 5.4m...im sure the majority of fans (maybe even some sabres fans) would like to have Girard and his solid Defensive over a good offensive but a disaster defensively Ristolainen

just to follow up...The Point just tweeted this out

The #GoAvsGo have signed one of the best puck moving defensemen in the league to a 7-year extension. Nobody dumped the puck out less than Sam Girard, who also ranked top-5 in successfully moving the puck out of the defensive zone last season.

the kids just a machine at clearing the zone with control

Its his clinical skating and edgework, remember that 1 shift he and makar had vs the sharks I think game 2, freaking legendary

That is the prototypical modern dman and what we hope we have in sandin and/or liljegren. It is a good deal

yup, its where the game is moving. Draft guys who can skate the puck out of your own zone...if you dump it out or blocking shots, thats fine but that also means you dont have the puck and arent going to create offence.

Barrie at times shows this strength, but he does suffer from being out of position every other time which just looks bad when he gets his ankles broken

Klingberg's contrat became such a great contrat that GMs will try to lock their youngster just like him (7 years for about 30m at 22 y/o). Girard (21 y/o) with his 7 years for 35m follows the same path. Dunn could be the next, or even Mete at MTL.

I dont know what Metes other metrics are like, but Girard is considered one of the top pucking moving dman in the league, which he creates solid defensive in his own zone. Out of 186 Dman...he ranked last year according to the point on twitter

Dump out Rate - 1st
Zone Exits - 5th
Zone Entries - 27th
Points - 88th

The guy is just a clean skating machine who wont chip and chase turning the puck over in his own zone, if he gets the puck hes clearing that zone
