Likely a bit high for this year and maybe next too but long term this should look like a great deal.

Not usually a fan of term over 4. But he will still be only 29 at the end of the contract.

This season will be at a $728k cap hit, as the last year of his ELC. The extension starts for the 20-21 season and runs through 26-27.

Even better. 6 years of being fair/underpaid and maybe one year of being *slightly* overpaid. Smart use of current cap space.

This may be a great deal just like Klingberg's contrat at Dallas.

I’m not a fan of Girard and I don’t know why people feel he’s a great signing. His Corsi is below 50, he doesn’t play PK, he scores a goal every 20 games with 2 mins of PP on a significantly skilled PP. only has 23 assists last season while playin 20 mins a game. Maybe this is what 5 mill is worth but I really think he needs to improve quite a bit more to call this a steal

Great bet for Avs. Flex the cap space in the short term so that when they are more strapped for cash, he's a great value contract.

If Ottawa was smart, they would make a Similar bet with Colin White.

Similar to Shea Theodore, and John Klingberg. Banking on current cap space for eventual cap value. Relatively low risk from the team and high reward potential in the medium to long term.

I believe this is the current status of that trade for Colorado - really embracing the youth movement.

Gave up:
- Matt Duchene (28 yo, C)

Received (signed):
- Bowen Byram (18 yo, LHD)
- Sam Girard (21 yo, LHD)
- Vladislav Kamenev (22 yo, C)
- Shane Bowers (20 yo, C)

Received (unsigned):
- Justus Annunen (19 yo, G)
- Danila Zhuravlyov (19 yo, LHD)
- Matthew Stienburg (18 yo, C)

It's a good contract, but nothing spectacular. Will probably play most of the years on the 2nd pair. Slight overpayment, but this will look good in a few years with his development and the increasing cap limit

Indeed. And a team like Tampa neither with their cap situation and the expiring contract of Sergachev. If Point signs a deal similar to Aho, they have a projected cap hit for next season of around 76M for 14 players lol

Great signing. This contract will probably be steep to fair on year one and and absolute steal as he matures. Avs are going to be a powerhouse in the west for years.
