JBB sticking to SY plan ugh

Created by: jasalex
Team: 2019-20 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 30, 2019
Published: Jul. 31, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
His big moves have been to sign Witkowski and Schenn to minimum contracts. Schenn may be an under the radar signing but Witkowski??? tell me who he pushes out of the line up? Volkov and Verhaeghe deserve playing time. Hedman was hurt during the playoffs but does anyone really think a healthy 77 would have changed the outcome ?

We are missing size so we trade our biggest, very versatile forward Miller for picks.

Gusev could have been added for two picks. Ferland could have been signed for 3.5 mill, Dzingel for less than 3.4 mill. Simmonds for a one year deal. Trouba could have been added for a first and a third pairing D man. Many teams getting better but we have regressed defensively and lost a very good forward.

I don't think we blow up this team but getting better should always be the plan, stay the course does not make us better.

You trade Gourde, Killorn, or Palet. We need more size Gourde is small, Palet has been injury prone Killorn versatile but not going to intimidate anyone. All are good players but do not have what we need.

Just hoping he gets his term, 5 years, and bends a bit on salary just like others have done.

Not on a bridge deal, that might even be too high still

In what world is 5 years a bridge deal?

Bridge deal = 2 or maximum 3 years

The concept is the deal takes you to UFA, either way he took a cheaper deal for a shorter contract. It would be the same in this with Point. Whether its called a bridge deal or ot doesnt really matter

Actually, with thw possible exception of thw Vasy deal Im pretty ok with what he's done this summer, one more kick of thw can with this lineup then move some guys out next year.
The biggest thing to work in Tampa's favour is that the rest of the Atlantic has gotten stronger. We're now going to be playing meaningful games down the stretch so we wont have to start cold come the post season.

Witkowski is tough and happy to be in the NHL. He plays his ass off and doesn't complain. Plus he is comfortable both playing forward or D and he is below average by NHL standards but that flexibility is nice to have.

Must be nice to live in a magical place where players waive no trade clauses to leave the best team in the NHL and you are able to move big contracts with out taking any money back

Did not say it would be easy but it does happen. We were eliminated the last two years to more physical teams. Playoff hockey different than regular season. You should know that the lack of grit is am issue.

Schenn and Witkowski are about the grittiest players out there. Whether or not they’re NHL capable is another story, but both of them (I would assume in the case of Witkowski and know in the case of Schenn) are trying desperately to extend their NHL careers, and know what it will take to stick on the Lightning’s roster. If either of them do manage to improve enough that they can be NHL players, the Lightning become a lot grittier. Trouba was way too expensive. Simmonds was pretty expensive as well, and was also a risk as he played really badly for the Predators last year. Dzingel is not a gritty forward. Ferland was the only somewhat realistic one, but I don’t think he wanted to be in Tampa, so there wasn’t much BriseBois could do. Kreider could be available now or at the deadline, and that would be nice (NYR can probably retain if it’s at the deadline and they’re out of the playoff picture), but otherwise, there’s really not much BriseBois could have done, and the betting odds are on us winning anyway (chances are we lose, but we have the best chance of winning). No, there aren’t ways to make NTCs disappear on command when you feel like moving out salary.

Witkowski is a fine addition to Syracuse, don't expect him to play with the big boys unless we get plagued by injuries
