I don't know how Calgary lays out their defense pairs, I just put them that way off the top of my head

A 4th round pick for a 6D on an expiring deal and a potential backup isn't the focus of this.

Brodie is an expiring contract and Calgary has Andersson, Valimaki, and Kylington all looking to take a step up. In any trade, I doubt Calgary gets more than that for Brodie, his ability to carry his own pairing is still yet to be seen as he has carried by Giordano this past year. Nashville makes sense since they lost Subban, so a Ekholm-Brodie pair could work.

The Rangers saved 2.125M in that trade.

It'd be better to give ice time to Dube who is younger and needs consistent ice time to further improve, plus Ryan is carrying a hefty cap hit
