I would vote no. He's a PP specialist who plays the right point. Leafs have Marner and Barrie at that position. But as a Dman...no thanks.

Ill rather give Ceci a try....Rielly made Hainsey look decent last year while Muzzin did the same for Zaitsev....we are set i think except for hunting 3# RHD ( or 3#LHD if Dermott will be permanently transited )

Buyer beware. You would be sadly disappointed even on the 3rd pair.

Shattenkirk will play for a team the he chooses. This buyout gives him the freedom to sign at league minimum and yet still cash in millions due to the buyout. With that being said the Leafs would be stupid not to call and offer him league minimum on a 1 year term. Absolutely no risk in that. If it works out its depth the leafs need. Injuries will happen. If it doesnt work Shattenkirk disappears and it gets chalked up to the leafs flexing their financial muscle and pissing away a million.

Honestly American players have no interest playing in Canada, but Shattenkirk has plenty of reason to sign with the Leafs. They play the system he wants, a fast-paced with lots of puck possession and creativity. Plus their roster is pretty stacked, since he's not out there making big money, he has a chance to prove himself for the Stanley Cup!

Yes of course he does, but none of the Devils, Islanders or Sabres have room to fit him. They are all loaded with capable right-handed defensemen. Aside from those teams, Toronto seems like the closest stop from his hometown.

Freddy is going one of the greatest season of all time with that defense in front of him. Hell Tonroto would be better off just throwing 5 forwards out there.

Barrie and Shatt are both awful in their own end. Reilly, well he was a huge help for Boston last playoffs. So 1/2 the defense doesnt actually play defense lol.

I don’t necessarily agree. I think Rielly is a very solid defenseman, he is great and zone exits and suppressing shots. Dermott demonstrated great decision making and positioning while Muzzin played a huge role in keeping the Bergeron line to just 2 goals at even strength during the 2019 playoffs. The Leafs blueline is actually underrated, people think they are bad but this is not last season or 2 reasons ago where Hunwick and Marincin were seeing top 4 minutes. Remember, in 2016 a lot of people doubted the Penguins defense as well and predicted they would choke. Look what happened.

Sounds like we'd both be happy if this was the defense lol.

I doubt any of them are a possibility but Philly, Pittsburgh, Carolina, Washington, and Colombus are all closer to home for him. And I don’t think he wants to leave the country.
NJD could probably nab him if they really try.

I am a Penguins fan and I was always a fan of Shattenkirk’s play in his prime. Great puck mover, passer and goal scorer but his defensive qualities were not as good as Pietrangelo and Parayko. I wanted him on the Penguins and I still think they can use him now, they just don’t have room with Letang, Schultz and Gudbranson all solidifying their spot on the right.

Is Gudbranson still any good? He was okay on the Nucks from what I remember but he was quite awful during the 4 playoff games that the Penguins played. If he was not too good, then maybe Rutherford moves him to bring in Shattenkirk.

Gudbranson suffered a leg injury during game one of the playoffs which affected his play. Prior to that he was actually playing extremely well on a pairing with pettersson.
