Am I the only person on here that thinks at this point in both their careers Ceci May have more to offer than Shattenkirk?

I agree, no reason the Leafs can't keep Ceci and sign Shattenkirk, it's not the worst idea out there. He is a veteran RHD who could fill a third pair role and probably play second pair if injuries happen.

Shattankirk in my opinion gets a lot of hate because of what he use to be combined with his massive contract. he’s worse than his peak form But he’s still a very serviceable #4 in my opinion. He still had 30 points last year while his defensive numbers were not bad in terms of usage

Ceci’s younger and quicker and I think a lot of his team sides were his deployment. He was thrown to the wolves on a weak team. My point is that with Ceci there is a slight chance he bounces back, who knows maybe his future gets a bit brighter. Shattenkirk is on the slow decline. Just my two cents.

I like that idea but I don’t see him signing In The range we would need.

I agree With you in general don’t get me wrong. I just think Ceci is still going to be zaitsev 2.0. Shattenkirk May be on the decline but with a 1/y prove it deal I don’t think TOR takes a massive risk Shattankirk just brings more to the Team than I think Ceci can while potentially being on a cheaper contract

Shatty also has no interest in a Canadian team

Honestly, I think Ceci is underrated to the standard that he's significantly worse than Zaits. Why can't we just watch him play? He's young, and he still has time to develop, we don't have any RHD, so we actually need him.

Trading Zaits would've been irresponsible without a replacement, and he's our replacement.

I'm non committal either way, really.

My only caveat is that someone in Toronto needs to pk. Ceci can do that.

That said, I think it would be dumb for the leafs not to be in touch with Shattenkirks agent. It's a no lose proposition at 1M or less.

Doubt he takes as light as a deal as the leafs need, though. He'll likely have some offers to choose from. But if we can get him at a price that works, I'd be rather impressed ..

No need to worry Jamiepo the Leafs are currently at 48/50 contracts assuming Neuvirth gets a contract (or a goalie at least after trading Sparks) the last spot is reserved for Mitch, so unless we were to make a trade I highly doubt we sign Shatty, also he doesn't want to come to Canada.

Leafs could lose about 10 contracts in 1 hour... and no one would notice... unless of course they are on cap friendly.

Na, not me, and I learned about from (the score app) when we traded for Schmaltz they stated that we needed to move out a contract for the reason I stated previously.

They could trade any player they have in junior on a contract no problem. It's not a concern.

You see warm bodies added to trades for that reason all the time

I completely agree with you! Just stating that we would “have" to make a trade to accommodate a Shatty signing is all.

It's true and a fair point. I just don't think it's much of an obstacle if it comes to it.

I'd miss a guy like SDA but the 3rd or whatever we got back would be fine too

I agree with you, it's more just a matter of would the Leafs make a trade to bring him in? Hey, your guess is as good as mine, my fellow Leafs fan. Ps, I would be all for it FWIW.

They were on his no trade list so the Rangers would be forced to buy out rather than move him, now he can chose where and make up his lost wages
