Why did you only sign Barzal for 5 years ? Wouldn't you try to sign him long term ?

I would certainly try. Just going off of this new trend of guys taking shorter deals to cash in multiple times as the cap increases. If he wants 8 years and it's a good AAV I'm all for it

I think for the long term he might ask for 9.5 or 10 M which for me would still be ok, considering he is the main talent to build the team around

I doubt Toronto makes that trade. Their LW depth is disgustingly bad, they need to keep Hyman. Although while I admit I don't really like him, Hyman-Koivula-Bailey looks like a damn good line.
