Johnny and Mony out

Created by: connorthehun
Team: 2019-20 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 31, 2019
Published: Jul. 31, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Monahan isn't game-breaking or dynamic enough to be a true 1C on a cup contender. CGY needs a superstar center to take them to the next level.

Tampa stacks their first line with 3 superstars and still has good center depth:

Gaudreau - Stamkos - Kucherov
Palat - Johnson - Gourde
Killorn - Cirelli - Joseph

Buffalo gets an elite 1A/1B down the middle:

Skinner - Eichel - Reinhart
Olofsson - Monahan - Sheary
Vesey - Johansson - Okposo/Rodrigues/Thompson

You could totally get more for Monahan. But neither of these players should be traded. It's like SJ trading Jumbo and Marleau in their prime. You just don't do it.

Jets would ship you something better than that for monahan, or similar lol, if you want something better than monahan, your going to have to pay for it and get lesser money for other roles, but too each his own

That's a really ****ty return for Monahan. There's gotta be better offers than that for him.

As others said, you'd def get more for Monahan.

TB would probably actually do that. I like Point over Gaudreau personally, but saving 2-3M a year for the next 3 years while getting a comparable player + a pick might be worth it.

if Monahan was a superstar like Jumbo was then yeah I wouldn't trade him. I just don't think he's dynamic enough to lead this team as the 1C and want to upgrade to someone who can.
What about this trade:

Monahan + Dube
for
Reinhart + Mittelstadt + Bogosian

That’s an ugly return for Monahan and Dube..really ugly.

Geesus talk about an NHL 20 GM roster manipulation. Flames wont move away from their key core players. Theres more involved than moving joysticks lol.

Ive talking to my friend for a while about a gaudreau for point trade. It just makes sense to give Tampa a nice top forward talent under very good cost control and then we get to have a true number 1 centre in point. I would then trade out jankowski instead of Monahan to have it be Point-Monahan-Backlund as your 1-2-3 down the middle.

The thing is I really doubt Monahan does well without Gaudreau feeding him. Better in my mind to trade him while his value is highest. Point-Backlund-Dube down the middle in the future looks fine enough to me.
