Way too much for Gardiner. And you certainly don't want to have bonuses carryover into next season. Those minor leaguers don't get the much in trades.

Actually Gardiner just might be a nice one year fit for the Habs. Since he doesn't appear to getting offers, maybe overpaying him one year works well for both Gardiner and the Habs. Maybe 6.5m gets him.

It is too much, but its only 1 year. Didn't want to sign term due to contracts coming up over the next few years. Gardiner potentially outwaited all the best deals he could get. Maybe he takes a 1 year higher cap contract.

Bonuses are a good point, didn't consider this.

Those small deals are 4th rounders or later... Not sure what you mean by "that much". Its barely anything.

Agree that the picks are kinda meaningless. But teams have their AHLers already. They don't tend to trade picks just to acquire more AHLers. Gee those guys are going to on waivers anyway.

Like the past few years, they likely slide some of those picks to 2021 draft through trades.

I heard per michael russo, he said that Gardiner pretty much has a deal in place with a team, they just need to clear cap space. I believe its Toronto, Buffalo and Jets. Logically, looks like the jets have cap (as of now considering the Laine/ Conner situation). only teams that would make sense out of the list is buffalo and toronto. although I dont see the Leafs being able to have enough with the marner situation. so buffalo looks like a potential destination. Also heard reports before that he would be willing to take a pay cut to stay in toronto. I would def love to see gards back in toronto hes a deserving player and doesn't get the appreciation he should get. If he does go to another team I wish him all the best.

Why would Gardiner sign a one year deal? With a lockout looming next year. Pretty sure he's looking at long term only.

Detroit already has tons of goalies within their system, The last thing we need is another one.
