Shattenkirk

Created by: tharrell
Team: 2019-20 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 1, 2019
Published: Aug. 2, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lightning are able to make a competitive offer to Kevin Shattenkirk as long as the deal is for 1 year. Salary cap makes it tight, but moving Condon and Domingue will create a some room. We will have to see what Point and Erne sign at, too.

Perfect match from a fit standpoint. Shattenkirk is able to provide The Lightning production from the third pairing. This is especially useful considering that the Lightning are expected to elevate Sergachev up to the first pair.

From Shattenkirk's perspective, he will be able to put up significant points on such a talented team, make a potential run at the cup, and see himself back on the market again shortly in one year.

The majority of people here say Point is better than Marner and that a winger like Marner gets paid less than a center like Point. So with everybody claiming 10+ million for Marner than I guess everybody agrees that Point gets 12+ million.

*sarcasm*

Lol. Maybe if Point only only cared about the money like Marner, I could see it

Signing Shattenkirk could pay off since he was probably better than he got credit for being in New York (who expected him to be a top defenseman and ended up misusing him), but it’s also a bit risky at any reasonable AAV. First of all, I’m assuming he’s not outperforming Cernak or Sergachev, so he’d be on the third pairing with Coburn and maybe get some power play minutes (but probably not due to Hedman and Sergachev). As soon as Foote is deemed ready to play (as early as day one of the season), he’ll be benched. If Schenn, Rutta, or Witkowski outperforms him in training camp, he’d also be benched. So there’s a decent chance we rarely see Shattenkirk even if he signs here. We don’t need a third-pairing RHD badly, so if he wants to sign for like $1m at one year, fine, but if he wants a reasonable AAV, that would limit our flexibility to trade. Someone like Kreider would fill more of a need, so as long as that’s not completely outside the realm of possibility, I don’t want to unnecessarily hamper flexibility for a luxury.

Also, Condon isn’t being moved. He’s playing in Syracuse this year.

Saw JBBs quote about Condon, but won’t believe he doesn’t move him this season until I see it. Shattenkirk is an upgrade at RHD3 over Rutta and Schenn. Don’t expect to see Foote either.

If he is an upgrade, we can't pay him... If he is not we wont sign him. Zero percent chance we sign him for over 2 mill... I would give him league minimum only, and i think some teams would pay more than that(desperation), so i dont see this guy in our lineup at all. But we'll see in couple of weeks/months...
I think we move Domingue, our GM will get it done , i trust him and Condon stays imo.
I also dont like your Erne signing. Too much money, too much years. He is not good. We can replace him with upcoming prospects. Not worth 1.3 mill. We need every single penny for 2020/2021 season u know...

I like your Point signings(both values respectable), but i think we somehow convince him for a 3 year Bridge deal for lower AAV. Fingers crossed he accepts is before season starts. After Vasi 9.5, we need to be careful from now on, and i know Point deserves the huge money, but still... i think he takes it for the team . After all he always says: "I'm not a goalscorer" haha smile

Haha fun thread to read back, under 2 mill, i got it right wink Noone offered him more than 1.8-1.9 mill, who are contenders for sure...
I hope NYR fans are wrong and he is not that bad haha...

For 1.75, i think it's not the worst until deadline, then we'll see...
