Jets with Oilers other side of proposed trade

Created by: hwjw
Team: 2019-20 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 2, 2019
Published: Aug. 2, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Saw someone who posted this trade from an Oilers perspective, just figured I'd do the other side

I love the idea of JMo/Nurse being cornerstone DMen for the long term. It's tough that the Jets would have to sign them at the same time though. Good news is that Buff would be up the year after and would likely be on a reduced salary/signed elsewhere.

If PoMo wants to keep 55/26 together, try to recapture the magic of "Schwhehlers"

Laine/Puljujarvi could recreate some chemistry from juniors. Could be a pretty weak line though if Nuge/Laine have no chemistry.

3rd line would be a trio of veterans with reduced roles who could excel as a group.

"4th line" would be pretty great (grindy, can create some offence, good shutdown line)

For the Jets I like it, at least until Connor puts up 100 points beside McDavid and Roslovic blossoms into the 2C he is supposed to be. And Nuge leaves after 2 years/pulju remains a bust.
If it doesn’t play out as above tho, it’s worth a shot.

Feel like the Jets win, Connor and Nuge are pretty even, Nuge is a center but Connor a better scorer, But Nurse over Roslovic for sure and then Puljujarvi actually has value compared to Kulikov so..

And if Nurse pulls a Trouba and just goes right to UFA it's even worse.

If Chevy could get Nurse and RNH locked up long term I really like this trade. Even if JP does in fact bust I think this still works out for both teams.

I'm not convinced that Nuge = KC. Contract status plays a huge role, it's only 2 years of Nuge and plenty more years of control with KC. Even in a straight up 1for1 deal between the two, I think Connor is the better player. It is close though

Nurse is certainly better than Ros atm, but Ros just has so much untapped potential. Jets win in that scenario, agreed.

Is Puljujarvi really more valuable than Kulikov atm? JP gets scratched as much as Kuli haha. It's definitely a pretty big sell low on JP, but this deal gives the Oilers two young players (who have chemistry together) and contract control for a long time.

Correct. Trouba was a isolated incident though. As Jets fans, we can't just assume every good player that Chevy acquires will never sign here. But it's definitely a possibility.

Oilers pass on the deal. We aren't taking kulikov for puljujarvi, thats the biggest slap in the face. I think Nuge for connor is a win for the Jets, and same with Nurse for Roslovic. Add Vesalainen in for Pulljujarvi and that'll make it more even.

Puljujarvi was injured more then scratched. He's gonna score more then Kulikov (as he should) but to me Kulikov is just a more expensive Brandon Manning. And yea i'll agree that Connor might be a slightly better player, but not sure how much of that is due to him always having talented linemates

Was Trouba an isolated incident?
Wouldn't be surprised if Copp does the same thing, Jets really need to keep the guys they draft and try to sign them for as long as possible if they're good players, can't be trading controlled assets unless it's for guys with plenty of term attached to them.

Well so far, yes. No one else has publicly said they don't want to play for the Jets and demanded a trade.
Other players could do the same thing, but at this point, it is indeed an isolated incident.

Well guys rarely publicly say they want a trade like Trouba did but we've learned that many guys have requested trades over the years, Bogosian and Kane did and who knows for sure but there's rumors about Roslovic requesting a trade.
Guess we'll see what happens with Copp in a couple seasons and who knows where the team and he's at by that point, maybe by then the team is retooling or he hasn't grown much so who cares if he's resigned but I just wonder if he's not another guy who wants out.
If he does want out that's a troubling trend.
