Description
Probably wishful thinking, please try to leave constructive criticisms for the trades, not just saying "So and so team wouldn't take this deal in a million years you big dumb dummie"

The idea here should be somewhat obvious. The Ducks could make a quick transition back into relevancy if they take some big swings on some guys. I'm going into this with a mentality that the players I am acquiring are "buy-low" candidates for various reasons.

1) Pool Party
Apparently playing with Corndog isn't all it takes to be/look good. This trade is more of a means to an end for my master plan but if the second trade involving him wouldn't happen then at the end of the day I am fine with this trade. The idea is that Sherwood tops out as a third line guy at his peak, which is fine I guess but at the same time I don't really see a spot for him in my grand scheme. So ship him out for a guy who has underperformed his expectations but has a higher ceiling and you've got a deal. Hopefully the picks even this one out of enough.

2) Honka
Another guy that has underperformed expectations. The Stars have all but moved him out at this point based on their free agent signings so maybe we can swing in there and nab him for next to nothing. Honestly the trade I have created here might be too generous to the Stars, not too long ago they shipped out Oleksiak who was in a very similar situation and all they got back was a 4th. (This is the most realistic trade in my eyes.)

3) Nylander
Now we're getting crazy. After a down, shortened season Nylander could potentially be on the move due to the contract of Marner looming over the Leafs heads right now. I think Nick Ritchie could be a good third liner for them considering their current thrid line left winger is Trevor Moore. This trade also opens up about $6,000,000 for them to help sign Marner or match an offer sheet to him. After shipping out Sparks they probably want a third or fourth string goalie in the pipe and Eriksson Ek can be that. I would be less willing but still okay with putting Dostal in his place. Then just load it up with picks to hopefully even it out.

4) Laine
Get your galaxy brains ready for this one. After a down season (hahahahah 30 goals is a down season) Laine is up for a contract and it doesn't seem to be close to what he is looking for. Luckily for him the Ducks have cap space and need scoring. The Jets could use a center and the Henrique deal is looking meh for the Ducks after the draft of Trevor Zegras. I personally would prefer to have Henrique as a third line center and not Roslovic but I don't know I'm not the Jets. Also Puljujarvi can fill in right where Laine was and probably do fine while being MASSIVELY cheaper than Laine allowing for the signing of Connor.

i get your idea, but Laine is worth more than that. He's an elite goal scorer with huge upside. The return for him is one you would get from a normal top 6 forward, but hes better than that. The Jets are also in a spot where all they would want for Laine is proven elite NHL talent. What would work though is that trade proposal but for Nikolaj Ehlers.

I was contemplating going for Ehlers, but I think I would rather have Laine even if we needed to give up more. How much more are you talking about, maybe throw in like Josh Mahura and another pick? I didn't really want to move out any of the good roster talent, that defeats the purpose of it being a quick transition.
EDIT: I think the contract implications are also important in this trade and part of the reason why Laine's value may be lower than what it should be.

So the Jets trade a young goal scorer with his entire career ahead of him for a 1st, 3rd, a potential bust and an aging 2/3C? If you add Lindholm or Manson maybe but as it is what you've got here doesn't get it done.

I'll give them Manson in place of the third round pick I guess.

You got to give to get with Laine and for the Jets it probably starts with Manson and Steel and you’d probably need more which isn’t worth it for the Ducks
