I think Thompson, Mittelstadt, Olofsson, Pilut, Jokiharju, Johnson, Cozens and Luukkonen could be off limits from Buffalo. I think there are other prospects to consider.

Asplund is looking like he could be a solid checking center.
Borgen is suppose to be a really good shut down defenseman.

I think that is the idea, move him for a warm body to cut the cap. Yes Weise is a 15th forward, but he has a low cap hit.

But would any one give you a pick? I think you are correct this is a terrible return for Scandella, but it cuts the cap and essentially adds another depth forward as was done with the UFA's that were signed.

Or Montreal can have Scandeezy for a 4th round pick, Buffali retaining 50% of his salary
