Good signing but in 2 years he is UFA at 26 years old. McCabe is a solid 3rd pair D and borderline 2nd. We'll have to pay a premium to keep him (like Skinner). He'll have to follow the money at 26 yrs.

I just would have liked to see this contact closer to the 4 year range. Even if the plan is to replace from Rochester after 2 years, a 4 year contact would provide better trade value and or be a value contract in 4 years and help the Cap.

I heard he wanted 4.3M or something like that ... the Sabres are probably glad they didn't have to pay him that lol.

If it was for a longer term (+4 years) that would have been the price tag. He gets less money for a 2 year contract, but becomes UFA at 26.

Great contract. Doubled what he was making before and short term contract is great for him and the team. Love McCabe, plays a really physical game and is our only real two-way defender at the moment. Probably the guy we lose to Seattle though

Good contract. Buffalo filed for 1.95M, McCabe for 4.3M. This is probably a bit lower than what McCabe would get from the arbitrator. Buffalo will be happy to settle this before the ruling after going there with Erod and very likely with Ullmark

Feels like the Sabres are hoping for a greatly increased cap in 2 years?

Honestly thought they’d limit it to 1y to keep the hit down to around $2M. As it stands now, after signing Ullmark they’ll be AT LEAST $2M over the cap and that’s after sending someone down to Rochester.

This all but confirms a trade is in the works. Likely Ristolainen if I had a gun to my head and had to guess.

Dahlin is the best 2 way defender, but I agree solid player, could be a great match for Montour if Dahlin doesn't work out!

He will be a ufa during the expansion draft. You guys could resign him after the draft.

Nachos or arbitration???? I'm with you, I'll take nachos. Interesting you mentioned nachos. Last night I went to the our local beach/park. Music played Friday night. Met three lady friends who brought food (I didn't bring any). Was served some lovely home made nachos sauce.....yum yum. As someone who doesn't cook much....what an unexpected surprise.

No, you won't lose him to Seattle. The expansion occurs when his contract expires, so you won't have to protect him.

Can somebody explain the Colin Miller trade to me ?

I don't follow the Sabres closely enough to understand why a team that already had Ristolainen, Bogosian & Montour on the right side would take on $3.875M a year for 3 years to add Miller

Because Miller is better than all of those players, on both ends he is good and doors sabres new mold
