Gimme offers on marner

Description
To me marner is askin way to much for a 3 year deal and a 4-5 year deal is off the table. Personally I’d let him sit until he decides to take a deal he’s actually worth. But I’m curious what other fans would offer for him

Its still a rip off for the Leafs, but it opens up the Leafs window for 4 more years and then you can re-sign or trade down the road.
Marner could be a top 10 scorer for the next 10 years, but he could also score only 70-75 points next year. This offers some protection for the Leafs if this was Marners career year

Actually....do we have those things written anywhere yet.....all the rumoured offers and all the OS that were already shipped toward Marner and he supposedlly didnt sign any of them ghost ones.....

Outside that box:
--------
To Tor: Holtby, Djoos, Stephenson (holtby extends at 7x7, but that cap hit doesn't take effect for a year).

To Was: Nylander, Hutchinson, Schmaltz, 2nd (Tor), 2nd (CBJ)
--------
To CBJ: Andersen, 3rd, 5th

To Tor: pair of 2nds, some depth guy, cap space to sign Mitch long term
--------

Toronto gets three Cup rings for the same cap hit of a guy who has three career playoff goals. They open a top six spot for Kapanen and enough cap space to give Mitch whatever he wants, for eight years. They end up with Holtby for about what they'd end up paying Andersen to stick around in another couple years, and they add a ton of new leadership.

Washington throws a huge wrench in its season, by considering starting Hutchinson if Copley isn't ready, but it might add a good wing, if he ever shows up when it counts? At least his two 60 point seasons keep him from having negative trade value for a couple more years, even if he keeps coasting/struggling/Burakovskying.

Columbus prevents a slow and painful rebuild, and stays in the playoff hunt for the next two years, instead, letting Korpisaloo continue to build into a starter's role. Their forwards and defense are still good enough, and Andersen keeps them credible this year and next.

Everybody wins?

Yeah. I think the Leafs have a great team and I'd love to see them pull through and win a championship with the guys they have. I think they have a choice between making space to sign Marner long term versus having another huge cap crunch in a couple more years. Matthews led the league in scoring ten games into Nylander's holdout, with Kapanen at 1R, and the Leafs were in first place, and when Nylander came back, he played mostly bottom six and got 27 points.

Andersen is really consistent and gets the team to the playoffs almost every year, now that they have the offense to carry him. But Holtby is the same age, has won twice as many playoff games, has a better playoff save percentage, has a Vezina trophy, has been to the Finals, and has won the Cup. Re-signing Holtby now, through age 36 at 7 or 8M per year might sound expensive, but wait two years and see what Andersen asks for, as a 31 year old, eligible to stick around Toronto until he's 39?

So I think Toronto saves money at forward, saves money in goal, and gets a guy in Stephenson who is a better fit for the checking role that Nylander played for a lot of last year. Stephenson excels at faceoffs and penalty killing, and won a Cup as a fourth liner.

Nylander only played on that 3rd line cause he was a step behind cause he miss games until like dec 10. I really wouldn’t read much into his last season. And for Holtby or Andersen I don’t see either of them signing long term here because the leafs have 2 top goalie prospects coming up that will probably take over by then.

Except when he played fourth line. I think you're totally right and he's still a 60 points a year player in the right situation. I just don't think Mike Babcock agrees with us. smile Is that due to the holdout? Was it a temporary conditioning issue? Or is he the kind of old-school, tough hockey coach who prefers guys that check more? Is he bent on changing Nylander's game and making him earn more minutes with more checking? If that's the case, give his cap space to Marner, and try to get something back. I know there were Nylander to Washington rumors last summer, but Nylander's value was too high for Washington to afford to make a serious offer. If Babcock sees him as an annoying spare part, though, and likes Holtby from their time together on Team Canada, maybe something happens.

Also, goalie prospects can take a long time to mature. Caps fans have announced that the team will be starting Ilya Samsonov for three summers now. He's finally in the AHL. Oh well. smile

Babs likes nylander he was just a step behind when he came back and it was clear to see. He had a chance with Matthews and just wasn’t up to speed and was holding him back. Nylander won’t be traded if babs didn’t think he’d fit babcock would get fired. And I know they take a while that’s why I never said they’ll take over after Andersen I just don’t see him signing long term
