EDM loses here. Sheary, Scandella or Gagner don't bring anything, Pulju is young and still possible to rebound to be at least better than the rest of the included assets.

Here is how I saw the trade,
Scandella > Gagner especially considering Gagner over the last 6 years has played for 5 different teams, twice picked off of waivers, once traded for 2 cap dumps, once traded for 6th round pick.
Sheary < Puljujarvi since Jesse has indicated that he is unhappy in Edmonton I thought a former winger who put up over 50 pts with a good center could do the same with McDavid.
Edmonton could use defense and a speedy, hard working, shooter and Buffalo could use a center and a prospect.

Boston Bruins I think your trade fits for a hockey trade.... Edmonton certainly needs D help and they are giving up the best asset in the deal but they are getting back the #2 & #3 assets in the deal. Boss is correct if the deal is just a straight deal where both teams are equal in their current teams talent..... in this particular situation the Sabres are dealing from their excess (though with Pilut on LTIR they are a bit thin for the moment) and Edmonton is dealing forward depth.

Sheary is a good hockey player. He had some bad puck luck, but he can play all over the lineup

thanks, Sheary playing 3rd line minutes with 3rd line mates had 34 points (only 5 less than Jesse has has in his career) and would have been the Oilers 5th best forward ranking only behind their top 3 centers and Chiasson. IMO put him with McDavid or Draisaitl and he will do better.

Would someone just overpay Edmonton for Puljujarvi by giving them a 4th and then everyone can stop putting him in their AGMs. He can then blow it in his new city and head off to Europe or the KHL next year. See: Yakupov.
