Well, signing Shattenkirk to a 1x1.75M deal is obviously a good signing. But I think he'll have a disappointing season though. Likely a 3rd pairing guy with very limited to no time on the PP. He's not that good defensively. Not sure Tampa needed another offensive player on the best offensive team.
GREAT Low risk high upside move.. biggest thing for me is we not relying so heavy on Sergachev .. they similar game and not defensive focuses .. 1 year contract gives flexibility for 2020. . Could enable us to trade Sergachev for large top 6 scorer if Shatterkirk works out .. if not oh well
This guy is literally 2 seasons removed from being a legit top-pairing guy and a good one, rest of the league passes and he falls to... Tampa. Because of course he does.
So Shattenkirk plays heavy PP minutes and no PK minutes. Of course some even strength minutes. It's getting those two other RHDs prepared to play 20 minutes each, some heavy minutes.
How does Tampa do it? Getting the Rangers to pay buyout money just so the Tampa can sign Girardi last year and now Shattenkirk.
About the only team that made sense for Shatts. He can go in be a 3rd pairing guy and not have to worry about playing defense. He'll have a solid year offensively and someone will be dumb enough to pay him a big contract again.

Actually 1. If i remember correctly, he had a really good year in 2017-18.

When he’s paired with Coburn, he’ll still have to play a bit of defense.

This is so damn important this season also to keep his $ asks on his next contract.

What flexibility for 2020? At least not anything cap related
