If Tampa is able to sign Point on a bridge contract, they should use Kucherov's deal as a comparable. Kucherov's bridge was at 6.53% of the cap at signing, and was for 3 yrs x $4,766,667.

If they bridged Point at 2/3 years, they could potentially sign him for a $5,321,950 AAV

8 year deal point should be around 9-9.7. 5 years should be around 7-8. 3 should be 5.5-6.5.

Its about next year. They expect $1.5 million is bonuses to Cernak, Cirelli, Sergachev and Joesph. With the LTIR of Callahan all of that would have went against next years cap as you can't accrue cap space when on LTIR. So moving Callahan basically frees up 1.5M in space for next year. The other reason he said he did was trade deadline, he said for every 1M in cap space that accrues at the beginning of the year its worth like 4M at the trade deadline so they also open up the possibility of making a trade deadline move.

What's the comparable bridge contract for the Leafs? I think it's harder to compare a potential Marner deal to a potential Point deal, because a 5.3M deal in Tampa has a higher net pay amount than Marner would get in Toronto due to taxes. Also, it's easier for GMs of teams to point at a player's teammate and say, "hey, the league MVP signed a bridge contract and we paid him what he was worth after it expired."

PLayer bonuses translate to next years cap if you exceed the cap limit with a LTIR. This would not be good for the Bolts as they'll be in a cap crunch next offseason, having to re-sign 2 great RFAs + Joseph

5 million for Point? Even on a bridge deal, that seems low. Keep in mind, Point has done better than Kucherov at the time he signed his bridge deal. Even though Kucherov won MVP, Point has proven to the the Lightning’s best player. He drives the play for the top line, plays in all situations, scores goals and has unparalleled hockey sense. If anything he is going to get a bridge deal of at least 9 million, maybe 8 if you minus state taxes. 12 million on an 8 year deal.

Kind of tough to go to the negotiation tables and say, “see this deal that was universally viewed as terrible for the player? That’s what we’re working off of!”
