I can see why if sweeney has a miller trade in place and petrovic could be some rd insurance if clifton falters. imo bruins dont need him even if its just a depth signing. Already have moore, clifton and kampfer on the team with vaak and lauzon able to be called up.

Could just be as simple as a value signing, bring a player in to see what he has left in the tank, not wanting to waste a year of team control with both vaak or lauzon (vaak especially after his injury last year).
