You're not wrong. These trades don't make sense.

I can see Doughty accepting a trade to a team like Toronto or Tampa Bay, but he's not going to accept a trade to Edmonton. Same with Kopitar. He's not going to waive his NMC for Columbus. Even after his NMC expires, he's not going to have the Jackets as one of his acceptable trade destinations in his m-NTC.

It's premature to cut bait on Doughty and Kopitar, unless it's for a franchise player in return. They're both coming off of career-worst seasons, meaning their trade value is at an all-time low. They'd be better served keeping them to mentor the kids through the rebuild and let them retire as Kings. Both are among the league's best at their positions, Doughty with a Norris win and multiple nominations, and Kopitar with two Selke wins, several more nominations, and a Hart trophy nod in 2018. Trading them for peripheral players does not make the Kings a better team.

I’m a sharks fan so I am by no means a fan of these players, but Kopitar is even more notable than you mentioned, he’s been competing with Bergeron for ever, I’d say idk who’d I’d rather want from draft day. Kopitar would have won so many more selkes if he wasn’t against first ballot hall of famer Bergeron. Doughty is a D man you wish for as a GM. And I’d argue you’d get that offer as a lowball justcfor lopitar let alone the two of them with retention
